My file is named "Fred's Quicken Data 2021.QDF". I would like to rename it simply "Fred's Quicken Data.QDF" How can I safely do that?

You should be able to simply change the name of the file by navigating to it using File Explorer.  Commonly the file will be stored in the Quicken folder under the Documents folder.
When you first open the renamed file Quicken will create any additional files needed automatically.

One caution when renaming a Quicken data file, make sure that there is NOT a space between the last character in the name before the .QDF .

-splasher using Q continuously since 1996
    - Subscription Quicken - Win11 and QW2013 - Win11
