Is a vault password necessary if the Quicken file is password protected?

Since the Quicken file is encrypted when password protected and since the password vault (I assume) is contained within the Quicken file, is a vault password necessary in this case?

BTW, the file password is not much security since anyone can remove it if they know enough details about some of your transactions and Quicken can also remove it.
The encryption of the password vault is real encryption.

Interesting fact, these days it (Password Vault) is only used if you have accounts setup for Direct Connect.

A vault password is required even though your Quicken data file is password protected.

That's really sad. Is the Quicken fat client not subject to the PCI-DSS?

You would have to ask Quicken, Inc.
Personally, I think the Quicken File Password only protects you from your friends, just like the locks on your front door.  If you want data file security, use data vault security (lots of vendors offer solutions) and store your data file in an encrypted data vault.
