Is the size of my QDATA file causing problems?

My QDATA file contains about 13 years of data and is about 200 MB. Lately, when I begin working, I don't have any problems. However, at some point, I can no longer access any account. When I try to do so, the system emits a tone with no error messages. Exiting and reloading the program temporarily solves the problem, but it happens with every session.

If size is an issue, is there a way to split the large file into two smaller ones by transaction date? If not, is there a way to start a new file, but with all my settings intact? I have plenty of memory and hard drive space on the machine.

unlikely to be the size of the file.  As one data point, my file containts 20 years of transactions and is now 252mg. I have no issues.

Mark1104 and Splasher: Thanks so much for your responsiveness and suggestions. I have 466 securities and had about 2,000 memorized payees. I've eliminated all memorized payees last used before CY 2016 and am down to 544. I do not save attachments. It had been a while since I last did a validate and repair, so I did that. I also noticed that lately I've been using Quicken with a large number of tabs open (around 40). I never used to do that and will be sure to close obsolete tabs. Hopefully, these modifications will solve my problem. I'll keep you posted.

I have 17 memorized payees ... because "Memorized Bills & Income" don't need to be memorized payees also.
I keep my MP list trimmed to "used within the last 4 months"

I keep my Memorized Payee list pruned to 13 months.  I figure if I use it less often then once a year, It isn't worth keeping.

Unfortunately, the problem hasn't gone away, despite the changes outlined above. It's a problem I can live with, if necessary.
