Error CC-508 CarMax Auto Finance - 2 factor authentication

Hello,
Recently CarMax Auto Finance added two factor authentication which requires sending a code from my phone when I log into their website. This was added around November 15th and since then I can no longer download transactions from their website. I tried resetting my account, now it's disabled entirely. I've tried adding a new account and selecting CarMax and it still reports the CC-508 error.

    Hello Anja,
I followed these steps and unfortunately it did not work. The problem of course is that CarMax is asking for a mobile phone number every time you log into their website (part of two factor authentication) where a unique code is sent to you phone and then manually entered through the popup page.

    Thanks
    Gary

I have been getting the same error for a couple months now as well. It's clearly a new 2FA workflow and I imagine the Carmax connector for Quicken will need to be updated.

@Gary Motts did you get any help from support?

I recommend maintaining car loan and/or mortgage accounts as "offline" manual accounts, not connected to the mortgage holder for transaction downloading.

At least in Quicken for Windows, an online-connected loan or mortgage account does NOT have a transaction register. All data shown in the account come from whatever information the bank downloads to you ... if this process works at all.

As a result of being connected, the scheduled payment transaction reminder cannot transfer the amount of principal paid into the (non existent) account register and must use a category, usually something like Loan:Principal, instead. The category seems to vary with the Loan Type you selected when creating the loan account in Quicken.

    Effective with Quicken Windows 2018+
you can deactivate an online-connected loan account and regain full control over your transaction register.  However, you should still review the Scheduled Reminder (or Memorized Payee List entry) associated with the monthly loan payments to ensure they now transfer Principal to the loan account register and not to a Category.

If you're a Q Mac user, you should be able to do something similar about setting up and maintaining an offline mortgage account together with a correctly calculated Scheduled Transaction Reminder for the monthly payments from your checking account.

Automate your monthly payments. Logon directly to the biller's website and authorize them to direct debit (aka PAC Draft, Autopay, APS, etc.) the next and all future payments from your checking account or a credit card. The biller will do all the work for you and make an electronic debit on the due date and you don't have to worry about being late.

Carmax Financial is now the fourth account I have that won't connect with my Quicken for Mac. What is the point of having Quicken if everything is manual. I can do that with Google Sheets.
