I can not get quicken to stop categorizing almost every download to the same category. How do I eliminate that option?

Please give some examples of what is happening.
Is the Payee getting changed to the wrong name and then the wrong Category is applied?
Do the Payees that are assigned the wrong Category have something in common?

Have you tried editing the offending Memorized Payee to
clear the Category
, check the box for
Never auto-categorize this payee...
and check the box for
Lock and Leave this payee unchanged when it is edited in a register
?
If this does not fully resolve the issue for you, you might want to consider going to
Edit > Preferences > Downloaded Transactions >
uncheck the box for
Automatically categorize transactions
.
