Enter payee, all past categories highlighted

Until recently, all past categories for payee were listed when entering new transaction, but were not highlighted. Press the down arrow to select category, then enter. Now all past categories are highlighted, and I must use the mouse to choose a category. Not efficient. Did this happen with a new version, or is there something I can do to revert to the way it was?

    Hello @Roadrunner Pete,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and telling us about your issue, though I apologize that you are experiencing this.

First, could you please provide which version of Quicken you have currently running?
    Help > About Quicken

Are you seeing this issue with multiple/all your account registers or just one account in particular? Also, when did you first notice that this issue started happening?

    Thank you!

I have the exact same problem. This started a few months ago with one of the automatic Quicken updates, so I cannot give an exact version of Quicken when this started.

My current version is R47.15, build 27.1.47.15, Windows 11

This is showing up in all account registers.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Go to any bank/credit card register
    2. Select the “Payee” field for a new (empty) entry
    3. Begin typing any memorized payee

    Results:

The memorized payee dropdown list appears with options filtered on the characters that have already been typed. However, if more than one entry matches the filter, the ENTIRE list (every option) is highlighted blue as though selected. However, based on the autocomplete information shown in the “payee” field, it appears that the first item is the one actually chosen, but that is not represented by the highlight color. Pressing down and/or up arrows cycles through the options. However, because only the payee field is updated with each key press, it is extremely difficult to select two between identical payees that have different categories.

I took the following screen capture to demonstrate the problem. In this case, I typed “Barn” and “Barnes & Noble” were the matching memorized payees. However, there are three options for “Category”. The question is: “Which one is currently selected?”

    Expected behavior:

The memorized payee dropdown list appears with options filtered on the characters that have already been typed. However, if more than one entry matches the filter, ONLY the first entry is highlighted blue. Pressing the down and up arrows cycles through the available options with the blue highlighting updating to reflect the currently selected option. This allows selecting the correct payee/category/amount.

In the above example (and how it used to work within the application last year), only one of the items (e.g. “Gifts”) would be selected. Pressing the down arrow would switch the selection to “Entertain”, and pressing again would switch to “Gifts:Christmas”. Pressing the up arrow would switch the selection up the list.

Hmmm … I don't know why it's highlighting several lines on your computer. It doesn't do that for me on my 17" laptop monitor.

What happens when you mouse-click one of the lines? Does it make the proper selection and put it into the new transaction line?

What kind of display are you using? 4k hi-res? Or a regular laptop monitor?
    Have you tried these suggestions?

Font size problems? Display issues? (Windows)

If you are using a version of Quicken at the Quicken 2019 US R 19.44 patch level or newer and you have previously made the following Compatibility change, please undo the change.
Users of other Quicken versions please try the following:

    • Close Quicken !!! (This process won't work while Quicken is running!)
    • Check the Compatibility tab settings in your Quicken Desktop program icon:
    • In the Windows Start Menu right-click the Quicken icon. Select "Open File Location". This brings up a Windows File Explorer window. Right-click the highlighted Quicken shortcut line item.
      or
    • Go to the traditional Windows Desktop and right-click the Quicken program icon.
      or
    • Use Windows File Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\ and right-click qw.exe
    • Now click Properties.
    • Select the Compatibility tab.
    • Uncheck all settings.
    • Windows 7, 8.1: Check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
Windows 10, 11: Click "Change high DPI settings". Check "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:" and select "Application" (also try the other available options repeating the entire procedure!). Click OK.
    • Be sure to uncheck the "Run this program in compatibility mode for [older Windows version]" setting.
    • Click the "Change settings for all users" button.
    • Click Apply and exit.
    • Reboot Windows.
    • Now start Quicken and see if that makes a difference.

    Some additional tuning suggestions:

    • Try this workaround for 4k monitors https://www.quicken.com/support/work-around-display-issues-high-resolution-monitors
    • System requirements: 1024x768 or higher screen resolution, 1280x1024 minimum for Large Fonts settings
    • Unless absolutely required, try not to use "View / Use large fonts"
    • Try setting the bank account registers to use a different font style or size: go to Edit / Preferences / Register, click the Fonts button and try different fonts.
    • Try adjusting the bank account registers' row height: go to Edit / Preferences / Register, choose among the available Row Height choices: Compact, Comfortable or Standard
    • If all else fails, try changing Windows Control Panel / Display options for "Make text and other items … smaller or larger" to use a different scaling level, but try not to exceed 125%
    • Try using the Windows Magnifier. Press the Windows logo key and the = key to open Magnifier. Customize Magnifier to increment Zoom in 25% intervals.

I have a little different problem. When I "Memorize" a Payee and asscoiated category, that same Payee and asscoiated category is memorized even with same dollar amount. Is there anyway to "un-memorize" a line item?
