Truist seems to be failing on Direct Connect
Could not update my Truist account today. When I try, I get the dreaded red "An error has occurred" status on connection update status page. When I look at the logs, I see:
==== Mini-OSU Start (20230415/16:06:28) ====
20230415 16:06:28: QFN: Beginning send to https://eftx.bbt.com/eftxweb/access.ofx

20230415 16:06:29: The server does not recognize a request from the application. Try again now, or wait and try later.
20230415 16:06:29: QFN: End send to https://eftx.bbt.com/eftxweb/access.ofx, netstatus 14
20230415 16:06:29:
Not sure why this is happening but Truist has been flakely lately sometimes failing and sometimes just taking a very long time (log shows that an action timed out and was retried).

Hello @JohnA,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community and telling us about this issue. I'm sorry to hear you're running into this problem. Are you getting any specific error code when trying to update your Truist account? Did this issue just start today or has it been going on for a while?
Thank you.

Hi Kristina,
Just sent a reply but it appears to have disappeared.
Issue just started today. A bit after talking with Truist, it appears to have been solved on its own.
Thanks for looking into it, I appreciate it.

Unfortunately, the problem has come back in exactly the same way. I'm posting the log entry for the success and comparing with the failure. There is no OL error returned, the OSU status page just says: "An error has occurred" instead of "Complete".

I'm sorry to hear the issue has returned,
If you go to Tools>One Step Update Summary, does it show you the error code there?
If you have a VPN, firewall, or antivirus active, have you tried temporarily disabling them and trying to update? Also, if you haven't already, try updating the account by clicking the gear icon in the upper right of the account register and selecting Update now.
Thank you.

Hi Kristina,
I'm using the mini-OSU (through the gear icon) most of the time. The One Step Summary doesn't have any errors. I am using Kaspersky Internet Security. So I did the following:
- Started up Quicken, did a mini-OSU through the gear icon - it failed
- Paused KIS - Quicken succeeded
- Turned KIS back on - Quicken kept on succeeding
- Restarted Quicken, it still works consistently for now.
If this happens again, I'll toggle KIS protection and see if it works.
Seems strange though. I'm not getting any notifications from KIS that it blocked anything. One thing worth noting is that my router periodically probes devices looking for vulnerabilities. I do get a message from KIS saying that it blocked an intrusion from my router when that happens. Maybe this is a side effect. In any case, it would be nice to know what that strange error in the log means - Google informs me that this particular error has been returned for other FIs periodically. Note that yesterday, it cleared up on its own without toggling KIS so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Thank you for your reply,
I'm glad to hear that it is connecting again.
That error message is a server-side error, basically indicating the server is receiving a request it doesn't know how to handle. It could be caused by a temporary server outage or maintenance on the financial institution side, or it could have something to do with your anti-virus or router doing something on the connection that the server doesn't know how to interpret. With how intermittent the issue is, its hard to pin down the exact cause.
Thank you.

I too have been having trouble connecting to Truist through Quicken for windows repeatedly, the last several days (around 4/22-24), never had this problem before nothing has changed on my system that I know of.

Yes, the intermittent errors persist. They appear sticky once they occur so I suspect that a particular server is the culprit. Once another server is chosen it goes away. They are also not exactly the same - the last few errors I got had something to do with a "null" body and always initiated error recovery. The initial failure had a different log message and never initiated error recovery. I guess I'm going to open a ticket.

Direct Connect problem was fixed by Truist last week, but seems to have come back as of today May 1, 2023.
Frustrating!

Looks like a certificate error on their end except it's not fatal. It just takes a bit longer than usual. My computer clock is correct.

Certificate at msa.intuit.com expired on 5/1/23. This was confirmed by opening a web connection. I wonder why no one at a large company like intuit can't update their certificates. But more interesting is that instead of Quicken warning and giving the user the option to abort, just accepts it. This doesn't seem very secure.
