Why can’t I connect to TSP and auto download the account balance?

I know this is an ongoing issue, however, [Removed - 3rd-Party Software] doesn't seem to have that problem. I know mint is going away at the end of the year and they want users to switch to [Removed - 3rd-Party Software]. With all that being said, I have a paid subscription to quicken because it’s a good financial mgmt app, however, they really need to fix the tsp connectivity issue soonest or I may have to switch too.
thanks in advance!

Q can't connect to TSP because TSP hasn't signed the contract with Q/Intuit to provide such function.

It's as simple as that. Bug TSP to provide this function.

But Intuit doesn't own quicken anymore. H.I.G. Capital bought it in 2016. Come on H.I.G, do you want to keep your customers! Please fix the connection.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @Hotwings,

Even though Quicken is not currently owned by Intuit (as you noted), Quicken (now apparently owned by H.I.G.) does have a current business relationship with Intuit with respect to connectivity of the Quicken app with various financial institutions. And I am sure that the Quicken owners clearly wants to keep their customers!

I suggest that you should consider contacting your TSP provider, since they are the party that needs to take action to arrange for connectivity with the Quicken app. I am sure that the Quicken owners would be delighted to have your TSP as part of the Quicken family!

H.I.G doesn't own it either, sold again a year or two ago.

But that isn't really the point, Quicken Inc doesn't provide these services. Quicken Inc pays Intuit to provide them.

Quicken Inc isn't big enough of a company to maintain 15,000+ online connections, and what's more Intuit still needs the same services for QuickBooks so they never sold that division.

BTW even though Intuit owns Mint too, it uses a different way of aggregation with different licensing contracts and such. You can't compare them at all.

This issue was just marked 'resolved' in another thread in these forums. I can't even find TSP as an option when searching for it. I'm completely befuddled and annoyed.

Make sure the other thread is marked with the for Windows, because Quicken Mac was also having recent problems, but Quicken Mac has had support of this when Quicken Windows hasn't even got out of the gate.

I contacted quicken support yesterday and was on the phone for over an hour while they tried to see why they can’t connect to the thrift savings plan (tsp.gov) server. I even spoke to a supervisor who also gave me a story that they can’t connect. I asked them why Mint can connect but quicken can’t? Quicken has never connected to TSP since being a quicken user for over 20 years. They wanted me to call tsp and see what can be done which is absurd. I said that they should call because I pay a subscription and I’m their customer. There are several million federal workers and military that have their 401k invested in TSP so why they can’t they make this a priority is puzzling. I did advise them that when mint shuts down at the end of the month and migrates to credit karma, that I will ask for a refund if CK can connect to TSP as CK evolves.

Just for the record, I was scanning the Quicken Mac threads on this subject, and there are still reports that they are having problems. So, nothing is resolved. But let me tell you what their recent problem is. They were able to download from TSP without any problems, and then all of a sudden not only couldn't they download properly, but everything was also wiped out. That makes sense to me.

The history of downloading of investment data has been that with a very rare exception the financial institution had to support Direct Connect/OFX and that from what I understand, at least in the past Intuit (Intuit provides Quicken Inc's connection services) would charge for supporting that. That was a no go in both using Direct Connect/OFX (requiring a OFX server) and the charge for TSP.

A while ago maybe a year now they introduced "Simple Investing mode" in both Quicken Mac and Quicken Windows. With Direct Connect/OFX the way that works is that instead of looking at the downloaded transactions, they look at the "summary information" like the number of shares and cash balances.

Building on this they started a different way to download just that kind of information (the summary, no transactions) from some of the financial institutions that didn't have support for Direct Connect/OFX. This was implemented in Quicken Mac, but something stalled it in Quicken Windows (it looked like it was coming and then stopped).

At any rate, given that the display of what is "current" at that kind of financial institution would be based on the last download, not some history of transactions, clearly if all of sudden started getting "no data", then that would appear in Quicken Mac as "everything wiped out".

But like I said, Quicken Windows isn't even that far along. Will they fix this in a short period of time?

Doubt it, but that is just a personal opinion, I have no idea.

I also have the same problem with TSP data wiped out of quicken. Waiting for a fix. Wondering why it hasn't been fixed and why there is no update on the situation.

IMO, I’m sorry to say that Quicken is a third rate company that has more interest in collecting our yearly subscription than fix the problem. We need to get more TSPer’s to speak up on this forum to show our unity to fix this connection issue.

I have the same problem regarding TSP. Last year I was able to download balance information and then it was reset to a $0 balance. It has not worked in months. I don't know why the problem has not been fixed or why Quicken doesn't update their customers regarding the issue.

@akijay Just to let you know, you are posting on a Windows category thread.

Quicken Windows has never got TSP to work at all, unlike Quicken Mac that had it working and then it stopped working.
