Quicken One Step Update Summary not showing investment accounts
May 30, 2024
Windows 11 version: 23H2 ( OS Build 22631.3672) [Desktop Version].
Quicken Classic Premier: Version R56.9 Build 27.1.56.9
: Is not showing my four financial investment accounts, American Century, Fidelity Investments, Janus Henderson and Vanguard Investments.
The problem has started showing up today, May 30, 2024. See screen snap shot. NOTE: This snap shot does show "one step update complete" and the investments balances agree
with their respective online balances. So the update values are correct after Quicken completes the one step update.
I created a new Quicken data file today trying to replicate the error. In the new data file, the above four financial investment accounts appear in the Quicken One Step Update Summary as sucessfully updated, "one step update complete", without any problem.
So the problem is confined to my original data file originally created in 1992.
Any suggestions or other helpful tips?
NOTE: From a previous Quicken Community post I selected Edit and preferences and then Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts. I clicked on "Sign in as a diff
erent user" I signed out and I signed in again with the same credentials but to no avail.
Thank you.

I may have found a solution to my dilemma. I am now able to get all 7 accounts to appear in the one step update summary.
I read somewhere to delete all the runtime.dat files located in the : C:\ProgramData\Quicken\Inet folder.
After deleting all these files I re-opened the Quicken Program and performed a one step update summary.
This is the result. See snapshot.
I would appreciate any comments regarding this solution.

@nitch - One thing I noticed in the OSU Summary picture that you posted is that the Greenwood CU and Discover Card accounts did not update (no date and time shown in the right column). I'm assuming that the connection method for these accounts is EWC or EWC+. When the runtime.dat file is deleted many times the EWC and EWC+ connections will not work.
Doing Reset fixes that issue in most cases. Sometimes doing Reset will fix the connection issue for all the accounts at that Financial Institution but sometimes each account will need to be individually Reset.
In some cases Reset does not fix that issue. When that happens, Deactivate each account with that Financial Institution and then do Set Up Now or Add Account to get the connection for all of the accounts set up, again.

Are you downloading via a manual start? Or via "Scheduled Updates"?
If Scheduled Updates, have you done TOOLS, Schedule Updates to verify that those accounts are selected for update?
Have you tried manually initiating the downloads for these accounts? That, sometimes, "shakes loose the cobwebs".

Hello
I'm downloading manual start. As I stated in my manual post, "I created a new Quicken data file today trying to replicate the error. In the new data file, the above four financial investment accounts appear in the Quicken One Step Update Summary as sucessfully updated, "one step update complete", without any problem".

just wondering - what are the download protocols for all your accounts -
- Tools - Account List - look at the Download Transactions ….. which protocol is being used ?Sometimes the OSU Summary only shows different "groups" of the download - Direct Connect vs EWC -
so, they appear as "missing" -Are all your accounts listed at the beginning of the OSU menu screen ?
You can try and toggle the bottom checkbox [x] Show Just The Last Update0 -
May 30, 2024
The three accounts shown above are all EWC.
The four financial investment accounts, American Century, Fidelity Investments, Janus Henderson, and Vanguard Investments
are Direct Connect. The method of connection was NOT my choosing but is what I believe Quicken to determine the best method.
NOTE: "Show Just The Last Update" check box is ticked on OSU.
Again, I want to re-iterate, that I created a new data file and duplicated or set up the four investment accounts above.
All four accounts successfully appear as they show in the OSU window. See screenshot:
The four financial investment accounts, American Century, Fidelity Investments, Janus Henderson, and Vanguard Investments
are Direct Connect in the new data file as well.
I still need help to try to resolve this issue.

did you try the toggle of the - [x] Show Just The Last Update ?
as I don't see - the 3 other accounts AND the 4 investment accounts all together in the same OSU Summary -

Have you checked your Update Settings? This is especially important to do when one or more accounts have been deactivated and then set up, again. But in this case, even if you didn't do the deactivate/reactivate for these accounts, check the OSU Settings anyway. If the boxes for those financial institutions are unchecked, be sure to check them and then click on Apply.
Also, my preference is to leave the box for "Show just the last update" unchecked. Usually it works like it should but sometimes when I have had that box checked I have gotten odd OSU Summary reports with some Financial Institutions sometimes not being included in the report. So I typically just keep it unchecked all the time now and all I ever get reported is just the last update for all Financial Institutions.

Thank you to both Ps56k2 and Boatnmaniac but unfortunately your suggestions didn't work. Is there a way I can open a discussion with Quicken Technical Support?
Thank you.

just to clarify - can we see a screen shot of the One Step Update Settings that lists all 7 accounts … before clicking Update Now -

@nitch - Did you uncheck the box for "Show just the last update" and then run OSU, again? If so, what was the result?

Are you using the Quicken Password Vault -
as I don't see the password "boxes" for the 3 investment funds ?
The accounts with the "keys" wont have the password box displayed -0 -
Reply for Boatnmaniac: Yes I unchecked the box for "Show just the last update" and then ran OS but to no avail. the investments accounts
are not showing.
Reply for Ps56k2: Yes, I am using Quicken Password Vault for all entries. When I initially set up the online accounts I was required to enter both the username and password for each of the seven accounts. My "Onde Step Update Summary" does not show the password box on the right-hand side like yours.
AGAIN, all 4 investments accounts require usernames and passwords.
The three accounts (Discover and the 2 Greenwood Credit Union accounts) shown above are all EWC type connections.
The four remaining investments accounts are Direct Connect types.

Wonder when you created the test file - and setup the investments -
did you also use Password Vault - or enter the passwords manually ?I don't use it - so don't know the implications -

Yes. I used the same procedure in the test file. I have no alternative to get by the usernames and passwords when setting up the seven accounts.
After you select the financial institution, I believe the next screen prompts you for your log on credentials. If I try to bypass this step it will not allow me to continue.

Another approach I will be trying is:
- Under "File", "Copy or Backup File". I will make a copy of my data file which is the one giving me this problem.
- I will then open the file copy. At this, point I MUST go through the setup process for each of the seven accounts. The accounts already exist but
I need to set each one up for connectivity. The drawback with a COPY of the file, you lose connectivity.
The purpose of this exercise is to see if I can solve the problem. I will again need to enter the log on credentials.
When I complete this, I will post my results in this discussion.

The three accounts (Discover and the 2 Greenwood Credit Union accounts) shown above are all EWC type connections.
The four remaining investments accounts are Direct Connect types.yes … we all realize you need to provide the financial institution credentials when setting up the Quicken account, and also for OSU -
Just trying to see all the things done for these 7 accounts and see the differences.

That is correct.
Update as of June 1ST. Regarding my data file that I copied yesterday. The same thing after setting up all my accounts online. The one-step update summary is the same. Refer to the screenshot near the top of this page. Just the Discover account and the 2 Greenwood Credit Union accounts appear.
Again, the 4 investment accounts do not appear in this screenshot.
NOTE: The 4 investment accounts (i.e balance amounts) do update ok in quicken and agree with their respective online balances.

@nitch - I'm glad you found that "delete the runtime.dat file" solution. The issue you experienced is one of the issue that deleting this file can sometimes (often) fix. Usually I will suggest other troubleshooting steps before taking that path but that is mainly because some more traditional approaches are relatively fast to complete and not so disruptive to the download setup connections. Deleting the runtime.dat file does not cause any data integrity issues and it is a file that is external to the installed Quicken program so it is not a high risk step to take. From my perspective, the biggest downside of taking this path is the amount of time it can take for Quicken to recreate that file and then to reestablish some or all of the download connections that were lost.
The last time I needed to delete the runtime.dat issue was for some other possibly related issue. I did that was just over a year ago and have not had to repeat the process so whatever caused the issue appears to have been fixed pretty well by doing this. Hopefully you will find the fix you have experienced to be as reliable as it has been for me. If you should have any questions or need additional assistance please be sure to post back here.

Thanks Boatnmaniac. That did the trick. Now all times and dates appear. SEE Screenshot…

@nitch I am glad that worked for you. I personally do not like deleting any system files. The other way to fix the issue you had was to go into the Online Center and while holding down the Shift + Ctrl keys, click on "Options". A Troubleshooting menu should appear.
Click on "FI Action Required". That should bring up a box with a list of all of your Financial Institutions. Highlight the FI and then click on "Refresh". Do this with each FI you are having issues with.
After this is done, go back and do an OSU and confirm that all FIs are showing on the OSU Summary.

Update as of June 04th.
Back to "Square One". One Step Update Summary error is back. See the 1st screenshot at the very top of this page.
==I give up==.
MY SOLUTION:
I created a new data file from scratch, and DID NOT back up or make a copy of the original data file giving me this problem.
It was a little tedious and with great pains but so far everything is working out fine. I exported out my manually created files and brought them into the
new file using QIF protocol. I also created my custom dashboard as the same as in the old data file. Set up all my online accounts and when I was happy I performed my first
One Step Update Summary. So far so good as of this morning. OLD data file name: Finances.QDF. NEW data file name: QDATAFinances.QDF.
I will let you know how things are working out with my new data file.
THANKS!!!
