Register balance does not add in downloaded transaction amounts for Chase Credit card

Since 6/10/24 register has been accepting and recording Chase credit card transactions, but ending balance has been off by the amount of that transaction when compared to online card balance. Hardcopy verification with Chase site shows no "missed" transactions in register. No pending transactions were recorded. No error messages from Chase. Account has been reset with no changes. So far have done 2 "balance adjustments" to correct register balance. What is the correction?

The fact that you have to do any balance adjustment means that something is wrong/missed. You need to understand that you aren't just reconciling the transactions that downloaded you are reconciling the whole history of the account as recorded in Quicken.

Quicken calculates for the reconcile from the opening balance transaction to the current one. If a past transaction gets messed up, it will affect the current reconcile. And the "most likely" transaction that might have been messed up in the past is the opening balance transaction in the register, because there is an outstanding bug where Quicken changes it when it shouldn't.

If account reconciled on June 10th, with a balance adjustment and all transactions since that day up to today are in register (hard copy verified) and cleared, why was there a second balance adjustment when account was reconciled today?

It is impossible to give an exact cause without actually seeing/verifying the data, which of course no one here has.

But in a nutshell if a second balance adjustment is needed then something changed. That would be either in the past transactions or in the balance that you are reconciling to. I gave an example of a possible change of the past transactions (the Opening Balance bug in Quicken) and for an example of the balance you are reconciling to you could be reconciling to the online balance and it isn't correct, say maybe including pending transactions in the balance when it should never do that. Note two things about the online balance. 1) It comes from the downloaded information from the financial institutions and is known to not be 100% accurate in all cases. 2) Even with the new pending transactions feature on, it should still never have the pending transactions in it, only cleared ones.

Some Financial Institutions have been including Pending Transactions (even when they are not shown in the Account Register) in the Online Balance. That should not be happening but if it is there is a quick step to take that resolves it.

If you have Pending Transactions enabled (Edit > Preferences > Pending Transactions > On), backup your data file and then in the Account Register:

    • Click on the button just to the left of Online Balance.
    • Does it show pending transactions there?
    • If so, click on Online Balance not right?
    • Select Exclude Pending and then Save

Did this resolve the issue for you?
