Is this really possible?
So I haven't used quicken in a while and I go onto the site to renew or purchase a new subscription. [Removed - Disruptive].
So on the home page of quicken.com In really big letters and images I'm being encouraged to purchase a product that is no longer available.
Like. How is this possible?

Quicken Mac is still available. Not sure why you're running into that error, I can only suggest if you're using any ad blockers or other similar browser addons that you turn them off.

Instead of trying to purchase Quicken as if you were a new user, do you still remember your Quicken ID and password (if you were a registered user after 2017)?
Logon to your account at https://www.quicken.com/my-account (US) or https://www.quicken.com/canada/my-account (Canada) and see if you can renew your subscription. You can also download the latest installation file directly from there. If that fails, contact Quicken Support on the phone during posted hours of operation and let them complete the purchase for you.

Thanks for all the help.
Trying from asia sometimes has interesting consequences. I get lying messages sometimes like "a problem occurred try again later" [Removed - Speculation/Disruptive]. Then there is a small set of sites that can't manage to support firefox.
"Instead of trying to purchase Quicken as if you were a new user, do you still remember your Quicken ID and password (if you were a registered user after 2017)?"
Yes I use a password manager and I have tried the operation both logged in and logged out.
When I try logged out, I'm presented with a page that asks for first and last name and email. Here is where I normally click "sign in" instead to take advantage of being an existing user. But it's possible that blocked me.
This time I:
-used safari-created a new account/email combination
-and was able to purchase it.

Now dealing with installer.
1) If you leave quicken installed, installer says "it's already installed, would you like to launch". At this point I launch but am blocked with "your Delux plan expired before this version of Quicken was released. I click "Learn more" and I am directed to this web page:
(Here is where I get "stack exchanged" with the message "You need to be around here a little longer before you post a link. But you may search for "reinstalling and patching your quicken subscription version after your membership has expired")
It says to locate quicken in your applications folder then drag the quicken icon into the trash.
Then it lies and says Once it's moved to the trash folder the uninstall is complete. I know this is a lie because reinstalling results in the same message. If uninstall was really complete it would have removed my preferences and wouldn't know that my subscription expired.
Then it's encouraging me to install an older version. But I just paid for the latest version. So I want to use the latest one.
[Removed - Speculation]
So now I need to figure out how to really uninstall quicken so it let's me just use the latest product.
I used to think of quicken as one of the best pieces of software ever written. I am completely frightened by all this.0 -
So here is another debacle. It seems that the proper way to get it running is with "an activation code" based on what I am seeing when it launches.
Activate a New Quicken Classic SubscriptionActivation is easy and takes about five minutes. We'll walk you through:
Entering your activation code Setting up your member profile Getting started with Quicken BEGIN ACTIVATIONDon't have an activation code? BUY QUICKEN NOW ←had to remove link again
Since I just purchased, no need to do that.
So I go to my log in and then go to my subscription. It says what I subscribed to and my information. No activation codes listed at all.
Then I go to the inbox for my new purchase email address. Looked at both messages. No activation code.
[Removed - Disruptive]
I am quite sure if I go to another user on this system I can get through clean. But I am not going to be forced into using a different mac user for quicken.0 -
Taking a step further I clicked "where is my 16-digit activation code":
Where to find your activation codeIf you purchased a retail box of QuickenCheck inside the box your Quicken CD came in. You'll find an insert that has your activation code.If you purchased Quicken online Your activation code will be included in your order confirmation email.
I confirmed and rechecked. NOWHERE in my confirmation email is the activation code.0 -
When you buy directly from Quicken.com there isn't any activation code. The activation code is only for when you purchase through a retailer.
To understand this let's talk about what this is all about. The purpose is to mark your account (as given by your Quicken Id) as "paid subscription". When you are buying direct from Quicken.com it has you login to your Quicken account with your Quicken Id. At that point it can do what is needed to mark your account as "paid" for the subscription.
Note that no matter what messages you encountered you logged in to your account and confirmed that the Subscription is active. That is all that "activation" does.
When you purchase through a retailer it is impossible to directly set this in your account, as such that is where the "activation code" comes in. This is just the "token" to let Quicken subscription website/account know that you have indeed purchased the subscription. And in the end, it does the exact same thing, marks your account that you have a valid subscription.
Note I have an active subscription, and this is still what I see on the Help menu (Note that I'm on Windows so the menu might look a bit different):
This might seem wrong were the "Enter Activation Code…" shouldn't be there, but one can use an Activation Code… extend their subscription within 6-months of it expiring (and the menu just doesn't check for such combinations.
If you can log into the Quicken Id when starting Quicken and see your data file that is all that should be expected.

Note also that you can use those menus to check that your subscription is listed as valid.
If still can't log into your Quicke n ID in Quicken Mac and get access to your data file then you need to contact Quicken support.

- @storkinsj - wait - are you NOT located in the US or Canada ?
Trying from asia sometimes has interesting consequences.

Tokyo. But I keep bank and cc accounts in the US and have a home address there.
And although it's monday here and I purchased quicken on Saturday… Chris's message basically explains there is no way to get my account working until tuesday from 2am to very early tuesday- maybe 8AM.
Bad news: hours are US only business hours for support. And you should not need support to just buy and install quicken
Good news: tech support must be in the US…. (I am keeping fingers crossed)… yay.0 -

One thing I will throw out just as a guess. There might be some kind of block in place for IP addresses outside of the US/Canada, and one possible way to get around that is a VPN that has a server in the US.

Yeah,
I did try VPN already.
Got on the phone with "tech support". 3AM here right now.
[Removed - Speculation/Disruptive]
So first he made me go to the quicken.com/activate page then click 3rd option (installing or reinstalling). I explained to him already that I was getting the error above. He still lead me through the steps that would leave me in the same place. He left out a lot of steps. Like he told me to select the help menu then sort of forgot what he was doing. Told me to go to apple menu and select force quit but then said to reboot without saying what to force quit.
Finally, and this is a gem. He told me to "contact mac" because a lot of users have been seeing this. It's an apple issue and apple would help me.
[Removed - Disruptive]
Obviously this isn't getting solved through tech support. I may have to run this from a different user account if I can't figure out how to expunge the quicken data.
[Removed - Speculation] I also read Chris's description about when this first happened that they were blocking updates and finally made the downloads list of releases.
Unless someone has a really strong suggestion I'm going to just try running this from a different user to see what happens.
Fairly certain the bank forgets about older transactions so if I go with fresh data I will lose anything older than 2 years.0 -
There isn't any reason that you can't run as a different user and retain all your data. I'm not a Mac expert so the details on how to transfer your data to the other user I will leave up to such an expert. But let me pin down a few things.
Say I create a data file with Quicken Id XXXX. Not only isn't that your "Mac username" it isn't even that the data file can only be opened by that Quicken Id. Given that you have MacOS permissions to open the data file, any MacOS user can open that data file using that Quicken Id, provided they know the password. Note this is different than a password that you put on opening the data file. That is yet another password, but again it can be "shared" to anyone.
What's more say I create a data file with a Quicken Id XXXX and but now I have a Quicken Id YYYY. When prompted for the Quicken Id I can tell it that I want to log in with a different Quicken Id and do that. What will be "removed" is only the "connection information" to the online services. I could then proceed to setup the connections again and other than maybe getting some duplicate information, I could continue where I left off.

I was able to get quicken working immediately under a new user account. At least "I'm working" now.
I will try to migrate that data back to my first user account. Eventually I'll figure it out and post the information here.
I noticed /Users/me/Library/Application Support/Quicken had what I needed to migrate previous data. If I can get the overall payload I'll know exactly what I need to delete in the original user account.
FWIW my saved file was a ".quicken". I was unable to import that using "quicken 2007", "quicken 2015..2017".. "Quicken for windows"… or anything else which is weird. What I was able to do is restore a backup. My bank online took me back 2 years so I am only missing about 8 months of financial data between the backup and what the bank was able to download. Looks like my categories did not make it into the backup so be aware of that.1
