There should be a way to set a stock price goal reminder that notifies the owner, through Quicken, when an investment/stock hits a certain price. Basically a SELL notice.

    My brokerage offers that … so I don't see the need for Q to duplicate that effort.

    @NotACPA

    The stocks I have are stocks purchased years ago for me by my parents and are not managed by a "Brokerage". I'd like to be able to track them occasionally and get a reminder when the stocks hit a certain price.

    But are they HELD at a brokerage? Or at some other place?

    Each stock is held individually. I get separate statements for each. For example my Northwest Natural stock is held through Equiniti Trust Company, LLC (formerly AST). If I wanted to sell, that's who I would contact, but they do not offer any other services other than notifying me of dividend transactions.

    In theory, Quicken already offers the feature you seek.

    As I understand the basic process, the idea is to create a "portfolio" at investing.quicken.com. Then, in Quicken, go to Tools > Alerts Center > Setup > Price and volume - and put a checkmark in the Price and volume box.

    Once you have a "portfolio" at investing.quicken.com, whenever you do a One Step Update, you should be notified when the price of any security at investing.quicken.com changes so as to qualify for the Alert you created, you should get notified.

    I don't use Alerts. But for testing, my attempts to setup a Quicken Alert for a price change fail as I never get the option to have Quicken update a portfolio at investing.quicken.com

    Others here may have more insights into creating/maintaining a portfolio at investing.quicken.com.

    [investing.quicken.com also allows the user to create a "Watchlist" - I found nothing that appeared to require that Watchlist to have any connection to anything in the user's Quicken data file - which, if true, would allow the user to manually create the Watchlist directly at investing.quicken.com (in my tests, I was able to do that). Also none of the instructions I am able to find indicate whether the securities in a Watchlist at investing.quicken.com can be the subjects of Quicken price/volume alerts - though in my opinion, it seems that should be permitted.]

    [NOTE: I believe that all automatic security prices at investing.quicken.com come from the Quicken quote server - a third-party service . That limits the ability of investing.quicken.com to produce accurate prices (and market values) for securities such as bonds.]

    Be it bug or intentional (most likely a bug). Not everyone has the preference for syncing their portfolio to investing.quicken.com. This is the preferences in my data file:

    Note I'm using the Premier version, so this isn't an "edition not supported" problem.

    But back to the original question, I also think this feature would have very little value.

    The service is provided by the brokerages and is real time. If Quicken (the program) provides this service, it would never be real time because Quicken isn't real time. If you choose to set it up on investing.quicken.com this isn't really any different from setting it up at your broker or any number of other investment sites.

    The only supposed benefit of this is that you can automatically sync a portfolio in Quicken to the site and not take the time to enter the tickers and number of shares somewhere. And maybe the "suggestions" that the site is supposed to give on a given security. In my case I have never found them to state anything other than "Not interested" in any security I have ever owned.

    EDIT: Note if you choose to use investing.quicken.com even if it is supported for your data file, if you want a price alert, I believe you have to set that at the investing.quicken.com website.
