Custom-to-date option on graphs on Dashboard Home screen

Under "Customize View", I have added several graphs, including:

  • Portfolio Value Graph by Account
  • Portfolio Value vs. Cost Basis
  • Net Worth by Assets and Liabilities

On these reports, I select "Custom to date", which works as expected. However, when I return to these reports on a later day, the "TO" date is not updated. That is, the starting Custom date remains as originally selected, but the graph does not plot to today's date - only to the "TO" date when I previously selected "Custom to date".

    Hello @Derek Marsano,

To help troubleshoot this issue, please provide more information. When did you first notice this issue? Does the issue happen only in the graph, or does it also happen in the report, when you click the button below the graph to view the report?

I look forward to your response!

I can't remember when I first noticed this issue - it has been many months if not years. Yes, when I click the button below the graph to view the report, I see that the report goes only to the same end date, rather than today's date.

    Thanks Kristina for following up.

    Thank you for your reply,

I'm able to replicate this in my Quicken also. I have gone ahead and submitted a bug report for this to our Development and Product teams for further investigation and resolution.

Unfortunately, we won't have an ETA on this. However, once a solution is created it will be made available as part of a future update release.

Thank you for your patience and for bringing awareness to this issue!

It's not uncommon for Home tab "widgets" to lose some of their customizations, and that problem has been reported many times.

I use the Custom-to-date option for a couple of Home Tab graphs that you mention:

Net Worth by Assets and Liabilities and Portfolio Graph by Account.

While those widgets may have had problems in my file(s) at some time in the  distant past (I can't recall); they have not had any problem for a long time in R56.9, or as far back as I can remember in R58.9.

So I'd guess you're not seeing a new problem.

You can try changing to some other date range and saving. Then changing back to the desired date range and saving. If that doesn't work, the usually reliable "solution" is to delete the widget, then add it back with the desired Customization.

[NOTE: Quicken has muddied the terminology waters somewhat by introducing a new Home sub-tab, named "Dashboard". Unlike other Home sub-tabs, the Dashboard sub-tab is permanent and its name cannot be changed. So it now can be confusing to use the term "Dashboard" to refer to anything other than that new Home sub-tab. Personally, I refer to Home sub-tab individual displays such as "Portfolio Value vs. Cost Basis", as "widgets". Quicken refers to equivalent displays on the Home sub tab "Dashboard", as "Cards".]

Thanks JP for your help. I followed your suggestion of deleting and adding these graphs from the HOME custom view screen, with no success. I also deleted the custom view and re-created it, and added back the graphs - no change.

I run 3 different Quicken files, and I have these same graphs on a custom HOME view screen in each file. What is especially odd is that the graphs demonstrate the correct behavior in 1 of these 3 files. Again, the correct behavior is that the Custom To Date date range for each graph ends today (on the current date) each time the graph is displayed.

    Any further thoughts? Thanks again.

As I noted earlier, the Home tab widgets have long had problems retaining their customizations. While I think some improvements have been made, there still appear to be some lingering problems.

Most of the complaints about the "custom to date" customization not working seem to involve actual Quicken reports, but not all. I see one 2 year old discussion here reporting the exact problem you're experiencing with a Home tab widget - but no fix/workaround in that brief discussion.

When you " ... return to [those] reports on a later day" and find the TO date unchanged, have you tried clicking the widget customize icon, then "Customize this graph", then clicking OK? In other words just opening and closing the Customize dialog without making any changes. At least one user reported that got the correct TO date displayed. Even if that works, it's less than ideal, but presumably better than nothing.

Out of curiosity, what is your Windows Short date format?

Other than Validating (and Super Validating) your data, I can't think of anything else for you to try.

[Before you do any Validating, I would consider using Help > Report a problem, to notify the Quicken developers. Plan to send your sanitized data file and your log files. Don't expect any response from Quicken - just hope that the data you supply helps them find the cause of the problem ... to be fixed at some later date.]

Next time I notice the issue, I will try the open/close Customize dialog. Today the widgets appear to be operating as expected.

My Windows Short Date format is m/d/yyyy.

    Thanks again JP.
