Quicken latency has become atrocious

Hi, why is Quicken Classic Premier so atrociously slow? I am at the point right now where i am spending at least 2 hours a day, 3x a week, keeping my accounts current and analyzing my data. This is not a file size issue, as I just rebuilt my entire QDF file and now have a whopping 90 days of history for most. My current file size is 16MB.

My current instance takes about 45 seconds to recognize and respond to the simple alt +t + u combo. I hit the keystroke, go pour a glass of water, drink it, take 4 solid box breaths, and then return to see the OSU dialog box is ready for me.

The OSU process itself is taking between 3-4 minutes for ~31 accounts. Unacceptable.

I have anywhere between 4-6 transactions each, across my main 8 accounts, and it is taking 10 seconds PER CLICK to navigate within fields of one of those transactions. When switching accounts, the delay is at least 30 seconds.

Quicken info: Version R58.9, Build 27.1.58.9

PC info: Asus laptop, Bios start date of March 2018. Intel i7 processor, 1.99 GHz. 8mb ram, 64-bit OS, x64-based processor.

Windows info: Windows 11 home, version 22H2, OS Build 22621.4037

System set to "optimize performance"

@Quicken Kristina @Quicken Anja @Quicken Alyssa @Quicken Bree @Quicken CEO @Quicken Eric Dunn please PLEASE fix this. Thank you in advance for your support.

    Hello @Luka731,

To start with, I suggest that you please try validating and/or super validating your data file. However, I do recommend that you first save a backup file prior to performing these steps.

    Validate:

    1. File
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Super Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    I hope this helps!

I'm quite certain you meant to say "8 GB (gigabytes) RAM".

Are you sure that, for running Windows 11, 8GB of memory is sufficient? Or might a memory upgrade be necessary?

Look at Windows Task Manager once you have started all your usual programs (browser, email, etc.) and Quicken.
How much % Memory is being used by Windows and all the applications?
80 % or more? If so, for a test, shutdown the browser and email. What is the % Memory usage now?
Keep Quicken running and see if it performs better.
If it does, a memory upgrade is necessary to make everything perform better.

FWIW, I'm running Quicken on a SurfacePro7 tablet with 4G RAM and an i3 processor, Win 11 Home. The data file is 20 years old and 150Mb.

It runs fine. Not lightning fast but maybe 5 seconds to switch to/from my highest transaction investment account. Startup in 10 seconds, OSU for 3 direct connect and 5 EWC/EWC+ FIs (16 accounts) between 1 and 2 minutes.

There is something specific to your setup interfering with Quicken. As suggested, you're going to need to open up Windows Resource Monitor and or Task Manager to see if you can figure it out. I'm sure there are a few other users with performance issues like yours, but it can't be more than a tiny fraction of the user base.

Quicken may be old and slow by modern metrics, but not like you're describing.

    Adding- Alt + t + u is instantaneous.

Just for reference I'm running Windows 11 23H2 on a Dell XPS with Intel 12th Gen CPU with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Like you I have the same version of Windows Quicken Classic Premier. I have a 148MB file (no attachments) which has over 20+ years of data. It loads in around 5 seconds. My response times are immediate when entering transactions. My one step update time is around 90 seconds with 13 accounts. I use to run Quicken on a 8th Gen Dell XPS Intel I5 with 8gb of memory on Windows 10. It was slow but no where near as slow as your experience. I did decide to upgrade to the above Dell because my memory was always running around 75 to 85% on Windows 11 even when I only had some browser tabs open and running Quicken. You didn't mention if your Asus has an SSD or hard drive. If running a hard drive performance will be pretty bad with Windows 11. An SSD can make a huge difference in performance. FYI.

I'm seeing similar slowness on a pretty beefy custom built desktop with an AMD 5950X CPU, 64GB of RAM, Corsair P5 Plus 2TB boot drive.

I do have 17 years worth of history.

It takes about 10 seconds to startup, 5 seconds from the time I click the icon for an update to prompting for the vault password,

The update took about 2.5 minutes for 19 accounts, with another 3 failed.

There was only a single transaction downloaded. I clicked on the account that was flagged at having 1 . It took about 3 seconds to open. And then there as no actual transaction there.

Quicken Premier has become a truly miserably experience.

    I'm using Windows 10 x64 BTW.
