Changes to Beginning Balance

With 2 unrelated accounts (TD Checking Account and CITI Credit Card Account), out of the blue my beginning balance that has been set for many years changed, presumably when I reconciled. Why? I spent considerable time trying to find what I assumed was an error on my part before stumbling across the true problem. In over 25 years, I have never the seen the problems I am having with this program. Please respond with why this is happening and what is being done about it.

It is a long-standing bug. And about anyone can suggest is to put the opening balance in the memo of that transaction, so that if it gets changed (which seems to sometimes happen when the connect is reset or deactivated/activated) you will at least know what it should be.

I just create an earliest transaction of $0.00 in my accounts. That is the transaction that gets updated with the "drifting" opening balance problem. When it happens, I just change the earliest transaction back to $0.00.

I like this idea also … but I use the "amount in the Memo field" method.

    Question & comments:

Q: Are y'all updating online, or importing from file? Also are you importing old (more than a month old) data?

Comment: I update online & have not seen this problem (but I just reset all my start balances to $0 just in case, thanks for the tip!).
My mother-in-law does not trust the internet so I update hers via download/import.
⇒ I just noticed the problem, and found a start balance change after I do an import, but not when I reconcile:
    - I created the account in Dec, and imported everything I could (18 months, back to 6/2022), reconciled each month with no start balance changes.
    - I imported & reconciled each month from Jan to May, no problem. ⇒ (So this issue may only be with importing OLD data?)
    - After a summer break, today (9/27/24) I imported June & noticed all the balances off :o & adjusted start balance
    - I then imported 2 months(Jul & Aug) without touching anything in between, and after each import the start balance had changed.

Comment 2: ?!? How can an ACCOUNTING package have such an egregious error & not fix it? I used Quicken for about 20 years, stopped around 2012 (before Intuit sold off Quicken) and just started a couple months ago. I suspect this "long standing" bug appeared SINCE Intuit sold off quicken, cause Intuit would never have let this thing lie around.
⇒Having unreliable numbers in accounting software is really bad — if I see much more of this [Removed - Language] I guess I'll have to switch over to Quickbooks.

I just got hit with this bug again after 18 months,

I was trying to edit a split transaction and it kept duplicating the transaction !
    Three deletes, three more copies.
Often when I tried to delete it, it asked me to confirm a R transaction which is suspicious, but I went ahead anyway.

By the time I got rid of the erroneous extra transactions,
I discovered I had lost the first 15 transactions in Checking.
