Export transactions for an account to excel without splits (only use total transaction amount
I'm trying to compare a financial institution's transactions with an account in Quicken. To compare, I'd like to sort both the financial institutions transactions and the Quicken account's transactions on the amount field. Once sorted I can easily put the Financial institutions columns next to Quicken's to see where there are differences. The problem is Quicken breaks down its transactions to include a line for split details which causes gaps and therefore the columns don't align. I would imagine a lot of your customers could use this feature. Can you insert the question before exporting that gives your customers a choice to include the splits or not? Thank you, your loyal customer since the 90's where I used to use CheckFree :).

Take a look at the Transaction report (under Banking). It does not break out the split categories and will instead show the category as —Split—, so 1 line for each transaction regardless of how many split categories it might have. You can customize the report (with the Gear icon at the top right of the report to select the specific Account(s) and other criteria that you want to filter out a lot of the data that you do not want to see.
Does this report give you what you are looking for?

What Quicken report are you running?
If you use the report at Reports > Banking > Transaction, you can control whether splits are expanded or not. Click on the gear at the top right of the report and un-check the Show splits box if you do not want extra lines for splits.
If you want the report pre-filtered for just one banking account, click on the gear at the top right of the account and select More reports and then Register report. For some reason this report defaults to having the splits expanded. Click on the gear at the top right of the report and un-check the Show splits box.
Once the splits are not expanded in the report, the export should just have one row per transaction.

That's interesting. When I pull up the default Transaction report the splits are not expanded because the Show Splits box in the Customization popup is not checked. I have to check that box or select Tag, Category or Tax Schedule from the Subtotal by drop-down menu in order for the splits to get expanded.
I wonder why we are getting different defaults for the same report? I double checked the Reports & Graphs preferences and didn't see any option for that.

Thanks Jim. I should have been more specific in my question. My question is regarding exporting the register of an account. I access this feature in Quicken by going into the specific account, clicking on the gear icon's dropdown menu, selecting 'Export to Excel Workbook'. From there, Quicken takes me directly to Window's save-as window. There are no questions about a date range, which would be nice, or to include splits or not. The resulting .xls file includes splits.

I take back my last response… YOU ANSWERED IT, JIM! Thanks very much. I should have gone thru the REPORTS path rather than using the EXPORT via the accounts gear export. I didn't see your post until this morning (not dreaming that there would be such a quick response). Had I checked my email and seen your response last night it would have saved me several hours of tedious work. I've learned my lesson :).
