I have Quicken on the web with accurate data. My computer crashed and I have to re-install Quicken desktop on the new PC. The only file that I have with the same name as the Quicken Web backup data is at least a year old.

I am hesitant to use it because I read somewhere that when I restore it, the web will be updated with this old data and the newer data (1 year of data) will be removed.

Is there a way that I can start a new quicken file on the Windows desktop and have it suck the information from the web to synchronize the 2?

Thanks from Steve

    Hello @3astro,

To answer your question, probably not. The Quicken Cloud isn't a backup service, and isn't designed to restore data to an older version of the file should the original file be lost/damaged (see this article for more information: https://www.quicken.com/support/what-quicken-cloud/). Starting a new Quicken file would create a separate cloud account; it wouldn't overwrite the existing cloud account, but it also wouldn't be able to pull in the data from that account. Restoring from a year-old backup would be risky since Quicken would likely see that the data doesn't match what's in the cloud, but the program usually sees the file on your computer as the master copy and would be more likely to sync the cloud to match the file rather than sync the file to match the cloud.

That said, there is a way to export the transactions from Quicken on the Web to a .CSV document. That would allow you to preserve the data, just in case it does get overwritten when you restore the backup. The down side is that there isn't an official tool that would import that .CSV file into your Quicken file. To download a .CSV file from Quicken on the Web, click on the Transaction Activity icon (2 arrows, one pointing right and the other pointing left). Then, click on the download arrow near the upper right.

If you prefer to have a separate .CSV file for each account, then click on the account to view the transaction activity for that account, and click the download arrow near the upper right to download a .CSV file for that account's transactions. Repeat for each account.

    I hope this helps!
