Problem After Transferring Shares Between Accounts

I have two investment accounts: A and B. I recently transferred a number of shares from A to B. When I transferred the shares, the register in A correctly showed 0 shares after the transfer and the register in B showed the correct number of transferred shares. However, when I clicked the Holdings tab in A and B they both showed the same number of shares even though A should have now been 0. When I ran a report of my investment holdings, the correct number of shares appeared not the doubled holdings shown with the Holdings tab in A and B. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Thanks. (I am using the latest update of Quicken Classic.)

There should be a Removed transaction in account A for the shares that were transferred, with the date of the transfer. There should not be a Placeholder or another transaction that adds the shares back.

If that is all correct, check the As of date in the Holdings page for account A. If it is on or after the transfer date and there are no Placeholders, it should not include the shares that were transferred.

It sounds to me like something is slightly scrambled. First thing I'd do is to shut Quicken down, maybe even do a reboot of the computer, then open Quicken again to see if that sets things to right. Maybe you've already done that.

If that doesn't work, and assuming "recently" is only a few days back, I'd do a backup of the current Quicken file, find the backup made just before you made that transfer, and restore the backup up using a different name from your current live file. That will help avoid confusion. The do a File > Validate and Repair File on the copy, and try making the transfer again. If everything comes out correct this time use the old file's information to bring the new file forward to "today."

I don't think you're doing anything wrong here.
