Yes, quite possibly this could suffice. I'm a little hesitant about Quicken Customer Service looking at a death certificate being the gateway, though. Too much potential for fraudulently presenting a document, or not being able to get support to process a death certificate. Please consider a "without objection" transfer of access which doesn't require anyone to do anything to have the access granted, EXCEPT that the original owner is notified X times by Y different methods and has Z days to deny the access.

    Thank you for your reply,

As I understand it, transferring account ownership would trigger an email to automatically be sent to the email address that was on file prior to the transfer, which would give the account owner the opportunity to veto the transfer.

If I'm understanding what you're asking for correctly, you're wanting something similar to that, but with more notifications and a time delay built in?

    Thank you!

Yes, if the original owner could set multiple notification email addresses, SMS numbers, and also had control over the time wait they would be comfortable with. For me, 72 hours sounds about right but others might want a bit longer or shorter.

But the other issue with the current approach could be solved with full transparency about how exactly the process of uploading a death certificate would work. What steps could be taken to ensure that it was legitimate? I don't know what governmental entity would be able to vouch for the validity of a death certificate. In my state, there is a Vital Records department and death certificates are public domain. So this would be a good way to vouch for the validity of one digitally presented. But that isn't true of all states, and I kinda see this getting to cumbersome for Quicken to want to handle.

This is also my biggest question about the use of Lifehub: setting up a way to notify and grant access to people after death. I like LexLuther's suggestion. Only, I would say after the first owner doesn't respond, if there's a co-owner that person should also be given X attempts to respond before access is granted to viewers after death.

Thank you for your replies @LexLuther and @adamls,

To help bring this request to the attention of the developers, I converted this portion of the discussion into an Idea Post. Please make sure to come add your vote by clicking the triangle icon under the number.

I consulted our teams about the lack of transparency with validating Death Certificates. I was told that the process is rigorous, but releasing specific details could be abused by those with bad intent.

    Thank you!
