My Quicken is not opening... again

I recently got a new computer and had to reinstall Quicken several times and it would work for awhile and then not open again. I spent at least an hour on the phone with someone earlier this week and we seemed to get if fixed and I deleted all my old files so I didn't get confused and somehow try to open an old one (Isn't is supposed to hold its mapping?)

He decided that I had a corrupt file and went back to an old file from late October or November. I spent hours the past two nights re-entering my data from the past few months and finally went to bed last night around 1:00 pm, planning to finish everything this weekend to catch up. But when I tried to log in again today it initially wouldn't open. When I finally got it open, it was the data point from 2 days ago before I spent hours re-entering the past few months.

I do not use the online program as I just use this as a tool to manage our home finances and don't really need anything fancy.

Can anyone offer me advice? [Removed - No Soliciting]

    Hello @goirishcarrs,

To assist with this issue, please provide more information. Did you have the ticket number handy from when you contacted Support? Is it the Quicken Program or the Quicken file that is refusing to open? Did this issue start when you got the new computer?

If your Quicken program is opening, but it's not opening the correct file, then you may be able to navigate to the correct file by going to File, look near the bottom, just above the Exit option, and it should list the 4 Quicken files you've most recently accessed, with the file you're currently in at the #1 spot.

If you can see the name of the correct file in that list, then you should be able to click on it to open that file.

I look forward to your reply!

    The case number was 11436631

    1. I can open the Quicken program it goes to the data from what I saved two nights ago.
    2. I can find the right file in file drop down, but it goes to the screen and freezes:

    3) I can find the file itself on my computer and if I double click on it goes to this screen and freezes:

And in both instances it freezes and I have to go to my Task Manager to close Quicken.

You're not attempting to write to a server, are you? What's the full path to your data file? Copy and paste it here.

If your data file is correctly stored in a local drive path (which I would think Quicken Support verified in early troubleshooting), do you have Ransomware Controlled Folder Access enabled on your computer? If so, it may be blocking Quicken from writing to the folder location of your data file. You would need to allow qw.exe in Controlled Folder Access.

    This is the path

    to

the one I want to try to get open is the 12/24/2024 9:04 AM file, but I haven been able to succesfully open it. It will let me open "Update-2" and "Update-3" which I created trying to get back to the original one, but somehow they both missing my last two days of work.

Is there a way to open this kind of a file?

I spend several hours on the 12th and 13th updating my info and this has most of the updating that I did.

I just made some exceptions to my Windows Defender ransomware for the folders that I am trying to save to, but I am not sure where to find the qw.exe

    Thanks for your help

    Thank you for your reply,

Since you can open your Quicken program and you're able to find the Quicken file (but it freezes when trying to open), that indicates there's some sort of issue with that file. I recommend that you try running a Validate/Super Validate on that file. To do that, please follow these steps:

    Validate:

    1. File
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Click the Browse button and in the Windows Explorer window that comes up, select the problem file.
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

    Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Click the browse button, and in the window that comes up, select the problem file.
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Please let me know how it goes!
