Truist OL-294-A

Member ✭✭✭

For the last several days I have been getting OL-294-A errors downloading my transactions from Truist using One Step Update. If I retry several times using Update Now from the account I will eventually get my transactions.

    Hello @Jeffrey Jones,

Updating transactions involves Quicken requesting information from your bank and the bank responding with correct information. An Ol-294 error indicates Quicken did not receive the expected response from the bank.

    Cause(s):

    • A temporary server issue
    • Online services are activated incorrectly
    • Incorrect or outdated login credentials

Note: You may be able to successfully sign in to your bank's website, but still receive the error in Quicken, due to the issue with the bank's server that Quicken uses to connect.

I invite you to review the instructions below in an attempt to resolve this issue. It is recommended to save a backup before proceeding (just in case). You can also find these troubleshooting steps and more information in this Support Article.

First, verify your account services in Quicken

If you have not yet signed up for the bill payment service provided by your financial institution, but have enabled that service in Quicken, you will get this error. Make sure that your account settings in Quicken match the services currently provided by your financial institution. To do so:

    1. Choose Tools menu > Account List.
    2. Click the Edit button of the account you want to verify.
    3. In the Account Details dialog, verify that the account settings in Quicken match the services currently provided by your financial institution and make changes, as necessary, so the information matches.
    4. If you make changes, try to connect to your financial institution again (Choose Tools menu > One Step Update).
    5. If everything looks correct or if the problem persists, continue with the next procedure.

    Second, verify your password

With the convenience of the Password Vault in Quicken comes the opportunity to forget to change your password in Quicken when it has been changed at the financial institution. To update your password in Quicken:

    1. Choose Tools menu > One Step Update.
    2. Uncheck all options except for the financial institution that is reporting the error.
    3. Click the key icon to the right of the financial institution name.
    4. Enter your password.
    5. Click Update Now.

Third, refresh your online account information

    1. From your account register, select the Actions gear icon at the very top of your register (Ctrl + Shift + N).
    2. Select Update Now.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
    4. Repeat these steps for each financial institution experiencing this error.

    If the issue persists

If the issue is not resolved after following the steps above, you will need to contact your financial institution to resolve this issue. Quicken does not have access to the financial institution's servers to correct the problem. This may require you ask to speak with an online services specialist that handles transaction download issues at the financial institution. If your financial institution states they can't assist, an escalation with the financial institution may be necessary.

    I hope this helps!

Yes …. I have not deactivated within the Bank's web site, but I have attempted all the steps in Quicken.

    Quicken Jasmine,

I mentioned that if I use Update Now several times, I eventually get my data. If it is a password issue then that would not happen (I hope that is true). Eventually I will not get an error using Update Now but also do not get my data. The very next Update Now will be successful and I will get the data. I am a programmer, I dislike getting the basic boilerplate answer. The point of the post, is that I can eventually get the data which negates it being a potential credentials issue. I am trying to help Quicken.

Nothing has changed at my end. I do use the bank bill pay and I have it activated in Quicken. I am wondering if that is necessary because I use it for one recurring bill and do not need Quicken to send instructions to my bank for paying bills. Do I need it activated?

    Hello @MSheltra and @Jeffrey Jones,

I apologize that those troubleshooting steps failed. Thank you for providing more information.

Having bill pay activated (or not) should not affect your banking accounts and the download capability.

As per the FAQ that I previously provided: If the issue is not resolved after following the steps above, you will need to contact your financial institution to resolve this issue. Quicken does not have access to the financial institution's servers to correct the problem. This may require you ask to speak with an online services specialist that handles transaction download issues at the financial institution. If your financial institution states they can't assist, an escalation with the financial institution may be necessary.

I apologize that I could not be of more assistance!

    @MSheltra

I fixed this like I have done many times before, deactivate online services and set it up again. If you would like to wait a few days, I will post again to inform you if that fixed it long term.

    Quicken Jasmine,

It works except it requests I receive an OTP and enter it for every One Step Update. I have not looked into this yet.

    Jasmine,

I forgot to mention that I have anew laptop. It appears that Truist is requesting OTP because it may not be able to save cookies or it does not have a remember me. The Truist web site does not have a "remember me" option when I log on with my browser. Short of turning off 2FA in my Truist Profile, what can I do about this? Thanks.

    Jasmine,

If I do another One-Step Update on the same day, Truist does not ask for OTP. This appears to be a once a day thing.

    Hello @Jeffrey Jones,

Thank you for providing more information. This leads me to believe that Truist has put these 2FA requirements in place and that they come directly from their servers. I would reach out to them for further assistance!

I do apologize for the inconvenience!

    Jasmine,

As mentioned Truist appears to no longer provide a means to remember a device during login. There is a way to remember a device in my profile but it appears to not do anything for logging on. When 2FA is enabled it will always ask for me to do second authentication using various means. For Quicken the only choice to to get an OTP via text or email. Imagine if all my accounts wanted to do that, Update would be frustrating. I contacted customer support. My question was simple and did not involved any sensitive information but they would not talked to me unless they text me a 6 digit code (OTP) and communicate the code to the rep. Asking for a texted code violates everything users are told about never sharing OTPs. It was probably OK considering I called them but that was the last straw. It would be easier to change banks at this point. I turned off 2FA at Truist. Until I move my accounts, I may reenable 2FA and tolerate it. Moving accounts seems extreme but we were considering it before this happened. Thanks. Please close.
