Mis-Matched Transaction Download
Quicken Classic used to be so much better at downloading transcations and eliminating dupplicate transactions. As I recall, if I beat quicken at posting a transaction (as at the end of each day, I enter any new spending items for that given day, and post dated those utilities for which I received a paper bill. When quicken subsequently doloaded transactions from the bank, it would show those as previously entered as cleared and would forgo adding that transaction to the banks transaction list, which prevented duplicate transactions is my transaction list. This would occur irrestpenctive of the transaction date or name of vendor. Quicken was always able to match such transations correctly.
Now however, I do not note any simular action. At the end of each month, when reconciling the account, I find numerous transactions marked as cleared (those respectively downloaded from bank AND all the transactions I manually entered.
That being said, am I to never enter a transaction manually and just assume that every thing I purchased is going to mysteriously appear in my register? Is the something I am specically doing wrong or incorrectly?

What I have observed recently is that if a transaction is already in the register with a date equal to or up to (I think) 7 days earlier than the Cleared date in the download, Quicken detects the match correctly. I think it uses just the date and amount for matching, not the Payee. For downloads from investing accounts, I think the dates must match exactly.
The matching criteria may have been different in the past.
What you should be doing is reviewing each downloaded transaction before accepting it, rather than clicking "Accept all" or letting Quicken automatically enter transactions in your register. That way you can correct the Payee and Category if necessary and manually match any transactions that Quicken gets wrong.
If you need help turning off the Automatically Accept options, please post back.

There's no actual provision, in the download protocol, for transfers. How could your FI POSSIBLY know what you call the "other" account in Q? Your FI doesn't even know your name for their account in Q.
SO, unless you've input the transfer prior to the download (or prior to accepting it), the best that Q can do is guess … and that's ill advised

You can clean up the duplicates by matching the manual transaction to the downloaded transaction by clicking the pencil icon in a manual transaction and selecting Match to Downloaded Transaction.
