A "Near Match" is not shown when using automatic transaction entry mode in an investment account

This has been a problem forever and never resolved (but I don't see anyone talking about it either).

This one of the bugs that stops me from recommending using this option in an investment account. Just to be clear, I'm talking about this preference:

You get a "Near Match" when you manually enter a transaction in an investment account, that isn't exactly the same as the one downloaded (maybe slightly off on the price or shares).

Quicken actually detects this just fine, but the result is "hidden" from the user.

The first indication that this has happened is that you get a blue dot next to the account indicating a downloaded transaction.

Click on the account name:

You see no new transactions in the register.

But something I just noticed, is that the "Downloaded Transactions" tab is there. This is normally not here in this mode. But note that it has (0) indicating that there aren't any transactions to be accepted into the register.

And that is true even if you expand it:

Now since I know about this bug, the next thing I will do is turn off the automatic transaction entry mode for this register. But before I do that, I will also show you what you get if you try to reconcile.

Review the unaccepted transaction before reconcile, will take you back to the register, as will the Cancel. The other option will bring up the reconcile dialog (which is a bad idea at this point since there guaranteed to be something that isn't reconciled in the account).

Right after changing the preference, you don't see anything different in the register, but you get a red flag on the account.

You need to go to another register and then back to this one to see a change in the register.

Now you can see the "Near Match":

Note that having the Downloaded Transactions tab appear under this situation is perfectly fine. Using it to "prompt the user" is fine. But of course, what needs to be done is to make that transaction appear in the Downloaded Transactions tab.

But it would be really nice if it could not display the transaction in the Downloaded Transactions tab, but instead show the transaction in the register and has a system to match the existing manually entered transaction to the downloaded one, just like you can do in a non-investment account when you don't get an automatic match.

Thanks for documenting this so well, @Chris_QPW. It seems to capture pretty well what I recall the issues being. I have had the automatic add to transaction lists option turned off for a long time now in part because of this and simply because I prefer to do review and accept investment transactions manually. Now you've perked my interest on this, again, so maybe I'll do some testing of it, again, to see if there is anything I might be able to add to what you posted here.
