"Balance last statement" suddenly wrong
I'm using Quicken Classic Deluxe on Windows 11, and have been using Quicken for my bank and credit card accounts for decades. In September my checking account reconciled. In October it gave me a previous balance that was thousands off—I couldn't find any transactions in that amount. Can anyone help me unravel this?

Often this issue is caused by Quicken changing the Opening Balance of the account, which is usually the very first transaction in the account's register. If you have been recording transactions in Quicken since the account was opened, this will be zero, otherwise you may need to open a backup from before this occurred to see what the correct opening balance is.
This sometimes happens if you disconnect and reconnect or reset the account.
It is a good idea to record the correct opening balance in the Memo of each account's opening balance transaction.

Thanks very much for this information. Do you mean the original opening balance of the account (1-1-93, $1950.37), or the opening balance of each statement? With the Sept. 4 statement the opening balance was correct and the account reconciled perfectly. The Oct. 4 statement showed $7048.74 but it should have been $14,935.82. How do I go back to a previous backup and open it "to a temp location" as the other post mentioned?
