How to use the new permissioned data sharing?
In his December 2024 letter, CEO Eric Dunn said:
All our Quicken Classic users have access to our web and mobile Quicken Classic companion apps, which now support permissioned data sharing, letting you give a family member or trusted party access to your synced Quicken data on web or mobile using their own login and password.
How do I do this? I want to give read-only access to someone. In Quicken for Web under Profiles I see options to Share and Manage Access but neither option gives me a read-only option. The "Share" option only has a full access sharing option and even that doesn't work (gives me an error message when I try it).

I see the feature but have not tested it yet.
It says they will have read and write access so that is probably how it will be.
(Would have thought read only access for a shared file would make more sense at least as an option.)

At present, the shared access is full read & write. That is fine for those who want or have a need for that but I, too, would have thought that they would have provided the option to select read-only (which should be the default).
There is a Product Idea requesting read-only access. Please review it and vote for it. The more who vote for an idea, the more likely the idea will be added to Quicken's development plan. Here is the link to that Product Idea:

Thank you both. I have voted up the feature request. However, the letter refers to "permissioned data sharing" which I interpret as something other than full read/write. Am I misinterpreting? I'm honestly not sure what else it could mean.
Would love to hear from anyone who has successfully shared their data file. I tried (even though I don't want to do full sharing) and just got an error.

I tested the sharing with the web app and it just gives access to the file without needing to share your quicken ID
This is a very nice feature in that it allows you to share the specific data file (they access with their own login). The best part to me is that you can share the data file WITHOUT them having access to other data files you may have sync enabled on that they should not have access to which has always been a killer for me. (Example: I have a trust datafile which I would like to share BUT never shared my Quicken login because that would also give them access to my personal file)
The downside from this thread is I verified that they have WRITE access too (which I really don't like for me).
I also tested mobile app android and as of right now, the share is NOT enabled and just gives a no active subscription error. I assume they will get that working.

This thread and the Product Idea are very specific in requesting read-only permissioned data sharing. However, what is currently in place is full read/write permission with no read-only permission option. That has many very concerned from a data privacy, data security and data integrity perspective.
IMO, I think this should be perhaps one of Quicken's top priorities to get fixed. They should not even think about waiting to resolve this issue until they get the appropriate number of up-votes on the Product Idea. It should be a hot-fix level priority to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.
I'm a firm believer that both options should be provided but that read-only permission should be the default and let the data owner make the optional decision about whether or not to give read/write access to someone.

This is a very nice feature in that it allows you to share the specific data file (they access with their own login).
Does the other person need to already have a Quicken account? No subscription required for the second person, presumably? When I try to share my data file access with someone who does not currently have a Quicken account I get the following unhelpful error message:

No, when I did the share. I share to other persons email. When they accepted the invitation, It asked them to create a login with their same email and it logged them in with their new account and no subscription.
