I have been trying to download an .qfx file from my bank into my primary checking account register. Every time, it creates a new checking account register. This has happened several time for various account registers. Suddenly all downloads from my savings will go to a newly named savings account register. How can I insure that all .qfx file go into the correct account register?

    Hello @laser16208,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you have been experiencing.

First, could you please provide the name of the financial institution you are downloading the .qfx file from?

Also, please right-click the account name it's supposed to link to and select Edit/Delete account, then navigate to the Online Services tab. In there, please tell us what, if anything, it says next to "Connection Method" as shown in the example below.

Check back and let us know! Thank you.

@laser16208 Thank you for following up!

I can see that the connection method it shows is "Express Web Connect". This is likely the reason why importing a .QFX file is creating a new account rather than importing the transactions into the existing account.

To prevent this, please click on Deactivate as shown on the top right of your screenshot. Then you can exit this screen, and try importing the .QFX file again. Please follow the instructions below.

    1. Open the downloaded .QFX file (or open your Quicken program and navigate to File > File Import > Web Connect (.QFX) File...)
    2. You should then receive the pop-up window shown below. Click Link to an existing account, then choose the account nickname from the drop-down menu.
    3. Click Import

Once that is done, the .QFX file should imported into the existing account rather than creating a new account the way it did before.

Will you be using .QFX imports as your download method going forward, or do you need to switch back to automatic downloads after this import has been completed?

Check back and let us know! Thank you.
