Quicken crashes and doesn't open

For the last few days, I've been unable to open Quicken on my windows desktop. I've tried the CTRL-SHIFT option but got the same result - it didn't open. Instead Quicken generates a crash report which I then send to support. This is frustrating - been a Quicken user for over 20 years and never had this issue. I tried calling support but it was after hours. I'll try again tomorrow during business hours. Even tried opening an old backup but that didn't work either.

    Hello @kjrekowski,

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you have been experiencing.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Quicken? Please refer to the following support articles for instructions on uninstalling here and reinstalling here.

However, after you have uninstalled and before you proceed with reinstalling, please open your Windows File Explorer and navigate to This PC > C: Drive > Program Files (x86) and delete the folder titled "Quicken" (doing so does not affect your data files).

After you have deleted this folder, go ahead and try reinstalling.

Let us know how it goes!

I did exactly as you outlined above - didn't help. Got the crash report again. I noticed it downloaded Quicken Classic - I had Quicken Deluxe. I haven't been able to access my files for the past 4-5 days. I need a fix for this ASAP.

Thank you for following up, though I am sorry to hear the issue still persists.

Please be advised that all Quicken products are now called “Quicken Classic”. This was done to better distinguish the difference between Quicken and Quicken Simplifi as both are products provided by Quicken.

However, your subscription tier is tied to your Quicken ID (email) and remains the same which I can see in our internal system that you have a Deluxe subscription.

    Hope this clarifies things!

As for the issue you are experiencing— Next, I suggest you try following the instructions provided in this post here by @UKR, and see if it helps.

Check back and let us know how it goes! Thank you.

That clarifies the Quicken Classic vs Deluxe question, so thank you for that. I did try the uninstall, delete Quicken (x86), reinstall Quicken via download but that didn't help. Someone from your tech team reached out to me and requested some additional information and a data file which I've uploaded via dropbox. Hopefully that person can find the issue.

FYI - i'm not able to create a sanitized data file as I can't access Quicken to get to the appropriate link. Is there a way to sanitize a data file outside of the Quicken desktop program?

Does the program open at all— just enough to get a "File" and "Help" menu at the top-left? Or do you receive the Crash Report screen right away before even seeing any indication of the Quicken window?

It doesn't even open up - i get the crash screen right away before anything can pop up.

Okay, thank you for clarifying! In that case, I would email the engineer who contacted you back and let them know that you are not able to open the program at all in order to create a sanitized data file.

Another option would be to create a new Admin profile on your PC, then install Quicken on the new Admin profile, and if Quicken opens there, then open your data file there as well to create a sanitized file that way. Let me know if you want to try this approach and I can provide instructions on how to do so.
