what to do!!!???? (trying to install Q Windows 2017)
I had Quicken 2017 on my (Windows) computer. I had to replace my hard drive and was told I cannot reinstall the 2017 CD I still have. I got to a point with a screen requiring an activation code which I don’t have.
I want to have Quicken actually on my computer, not just access it online. We are a small investment firm. I enter data for our many accounts manually, not electronically and basically need to have Cash Flow, Balance Sheets and Income Statements for our accountant.
- What product is most like the 2017 Quicken?
- I have all my data on the thumb drive. Will it install without major problems in a new version?
- Do the new versions look and operate similar to what i’ve been so happily using for 7 years?

QWin Subscription will be able to read your 2017 data file without any issue. Also, you will see that the manual functionality and look will be pretty similar to what you are used to. Most of the improvements in Subscription since 2017 are related to online services, not manual functionality.

There's another computer here that still has a functioning 2017 on it. Would I need to get 2 subscriptions or can one subscription be used for two computers?
No, 1 subscription is all you would need. The license allows to to install and use QWin subscription on multiple computers.
Do I assume correctly that if my computer has a new Quicken version on it and the second computer has 2017, I won’t be able to just back up the data from my computer on a thumb drive, and use the Quicken RESTORE function on the second computer to get new data from my computer into Quicken on THAT computer - like I’ve been doing so these years
It is my understanding that QWin 2017 will be able to read your QWin Subscription data file. I'm not 100% sure of that but after you install QWin Subscription you could do some updates in it. Then backup the file and try to restore it with your QWin 2017 system. If it works, as I suspect it will, then you are good to go. If it does not, then you can upgrade your QWin 2017 software to QWin Subscription and you will be able to transfer the data file back and forth like you have been doing for years since both will be running the same version of software.

I've not heard of any significant issues installing new or upgrading from QWin 2017. Most everyone reports the process goes well.

I don't know how much Quicken Windows has changed since 2017 (I switched to the Mac in 2000) but it's still a desktop program. You have the option of syncing to the cloud & using a mobile app or web interface to access your data but none of that is required.
For investing you would want at least the Deluxe subscription. The subscription levels should match up with the old product versions AFAIK, so if your CD said "Quicken Deluxe" on it you would want that subscription level.

Yes, it was Quicken Deluxe. I was so bonded and comfortable with 2017, feel intimidated about having to move on.

Just to make clear, if it isn't already, that when you purchase the new version of Quicken, unlike the past, you are purchasing an annual subscription. What that means is that you will need to pay to renew your subscription each year. Or, you can let the subscription lapse and continue to use Quicken manually, but Quicken will steal about a quarter of your screen real estate for a nag message about renewing.

I am trying to get someone to help me get my old quicken back on my computer because the backup will not even come forward. The new latest quicken update erased everything that was on my computer and says it cannot find anything. If this cannot be corrected I want to cancel my Quicken program now. I have tried calling and can not get a response after waiting 15 minutes on the phone. The automated questions had to have my answers repeated 5 or 6 times. Right now after all the years that I have worked with Quicken, I am really frustrated. In the past I have gotten immediate help from your company. But not this time.

What old version did you have? You may have needed to install some intermediate versions to get converted to the new latest Quicken.
I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

Quicken telephone support is definitely available, but at busy times it may take more than 15 minutes to get to a representative. You might want to try again at a time when you can read or do other work on your computer while waiting. (I'm a Quicken Mac user, so I don't want to dive into specific troubleshooting for your installation of Quicken Windows; I can say the on Quicken Mac, installing a new version never deletes any files, so it's likely that your data is still on the computer somewhere.)

Susie1 - Do you have a current subscription or were you using manually? I was using Q 2018 manually, and was locked out after an update, you have to be very careful about making sure you' are not updating the software in any way. I was only able to open my quicken and access my data thru purchasing a subscription. Just my experience, my manual use of the software longer functioned or let me open quicken. Just my experience. Now I have stayed up to date for the last two years by subscribing with a deal when I can find it.

Thank you for your help and comforting responses to my questions about going from 2017 to the new subscription format.
I bought Quicken Business and Personal for Windows and decided to buy it directly from Quicken online.
It installed and converted my data from the 2017 version with no problems at all.
I had a question related to installing Quicken on an additional computer and when I called Quicken support I had only a short wait and the representative was professional and helpful.
The whole experience - top to bottom- was much easier and more pleasant than I expected!! I’m quite delighted and I appreciate the guidance I received here :)
