Mutual Fund Transfer / Placeholder Error Message

I followed all the steps in the previous post concerning the error screen "You cannot transfer into your mutual fund account prior to a Placeholder Transaction."
I even closed all my Mutual Fund accounts.

Please reference the specific posts so that we don't have to go searching/guessing what you're talking about.
And, WHERE did you close those accounts? In Q, or at the fund company.
re: placeholders. They're created when the position info downloaded from your fund company doesn't match what you've recorded in Q. The BEST course of action is:
- Show the placeholders via EDIT, Preferences, Investments and checking "Show Hidden Transactions" (which will reveal those placeholders),
- Pulling out your old statements and resolving the placeholders, then
- Deleting the placeholders.
Frequently they're caused by splits and other actions that create tiny fractions of a share so that when you do a sell of the security you only sell 3 (or 4) decimal places of the security but Q has actually recorded as many as 8 decimals … leaving that tiny fraction behind.

When ever I try to update any account I get this message: "You cannot transfer into your mutual fund account prior to Placeholder Transaction."
I have clicked on show all hidden transactions. I have also closed all the mutual fund accounts in Quicken.
This happens almost every time there is an update in Quicken.

Hello @Odontolith,
Thank you for letting us know you're encountering this issue. To clarify, when you say this happens almost every time there is an update in Quicken, are you referring to program updates or are you referring to running One Step Update to update accounts? Is this affecting all of your accounts, regardless of what kind of account they are (checking, savings, credit, investment, etc.), or only specific kinds of accounts? Is this happening with one financial institution, or multiple financial institutions? At what point in the process are you seeing the error message?
If possible, please post a screenshot of the exact error message you are seeing. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.
I look forward to your response!

I get this message with many of the Quicken program updates.
All of my accounts are affected: I get this error message no matter which account I begin updating or which financial institution. The message appears after the 'update process' has been attempted for several seconds and the message appears and the Quicken program freezes, requiring me to reboot the program.

Thank you for your reply and the screenshot,
You specifically mentioned you've checked for hidden transactions. Did you also follow the initial troubleshooting mentioned in the previous discussion you referenced?
If you have followed those steps also and the issue is persisting, then this may be a program issue or a file-specific issue. To start troubleshooting this, please try reinstalling the most recent update patch. For the link to the patch and instructions on installing it, please use this article:
Please let me know how it goes!

The Link you gave me told me to check Help…Check for updates. When I did this I received the message that I had the latest update (Release R60.20).
When I to Help…about Quicken .. I have Quicken Classic Premier Version R60.20 Build 27.1.60.20 Windows 11 Home

I've installed the patch again and I'm getting the same Error Message.

I believe the below post is the OP’s referenced prior post on the same issue. The referenced post includes a link to an even earlier discussion of the same issue. In both prior posts, the solution was to delete placeholder entries.
To delete placeholder entries, it is necessary to enable the preference to view hidden investment transactions.

I tried that: there are no hidden place holders. I posted a screenshot showing that there were no hidden place holders. Thank you though for trying to help.

Screen shots do not include preference screen with selection for showing hidden investment transactions nor do screen shots show placeholder tab at bottom of investment account register after display of hidden investment transactions have been enabled.

I'm not sure what you are saying. I followed the steps outlined to me to find and clear the 'hidden transaction'. When I reached the final step, the screen said there were no hidden transactions. .

This preference turns on display of hidden transactions, including placeholder transactions:
Once hidden transactions are displayed, you can find them in the Placeholder tab at the bottom of the account register:
