Hiding account removes balance history

I'm using Quicken Deluxe for Mac version 8.0.1. I have a closed account that I want to hide from lists but retain history and balance information. When using the "Hide account in lists" option in Account Settings for the account, it correctly hides the account in lists but incorrectly removes the account's history. For example, my historical portfolio value goes down during the period of time this account was open when I check the "Hide account in lists" option. What could be causing this?

Are you sure that the hidden account is included in the "account selection" for that portfolio view? It might have been de-selected by the hide.

This is what I and many others consider a design flaw in Quicken Mac which the developers have yet to address. I don't know why the developers somewhere changed their interpretation of "Hide in Lists" to "Hide Completely". "Hide in Lists" should mean just that; it shouldn't make the account's investment history disappear entirely from the Portfolio. There is an Idea thread (feature request) asking the developers to show the proper history for accounts which are hidden from lists:

Please click View Post to visit that thread; add your vote (in the yellow box under the first post), and optionally add your own comment.

Until the day the developers act on this, there's a trick which (mostly) works around this situation…

If you go to Accounts > Hide & Show Accounts, you probably have your old account marked as Hidden (and possibly as Closed). Is that correct? If so, although this seems unintuitive, uncheck the Hidden box for the old account. You should now see the old account in your left sidebar under the Retirement heading, right? (If the account is Closed, it will be in italics, but that doesn't really matter for this.)

Now, at the top of the left sidebar, click the ••• icon and select Sidebar Settings. At the bottom of the Settings page, in the Accounts to Display section, uncheck "Closed". Your old account will now disappear again from the left sidebar… but because it isn't a "hidden" account, it will now show up in your Portfolio view history! I've done this for my closed accounts, and it works exactly the way I'd like it to. But the downside of this approach is that while it achieves the desired result for the Portfolio, it makes you wade through your old accounts in account selection lists where it would be preferable to have them hidden. To me, seeing accurate historical data for my investments is more important.

@jacobs , it appears this is indeed a design flaw. I just voted for Quicken to implement a fix. Your workaround did the trick for me and will work until Quicken develops a long-term solution. Thanks for the help!
