Linked Investment Cash Register - can't change/Edit the Security Name

I have ran into this a number of times and finally gotten around to posting issue.

I have notice the cash register entry needs to modification the security name on the linked Cash Register, but Quicken give pop up error that the change needs to be done in the linked Investment Register. Which if you make the change there it does not carry offer to the cash register?

I image one has to delete the two transactions - one in each register then readd, which is a pain.

    Hello @BRETTB,

If you don’t mind, could you please provide a screenshot of the error message you described receiving? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments. Please remember to redact any personal information as needed.

    Thanks!

I can confirm that mis-behavior. It is the last part that needs to be fixed - Editing the transactions in the investment account to change the security doe not change the security in the linked cash pseudo-account.

    Transaction in the investment account:

Linked transaction in the linked cash account:

Attempt to change the Security name in the Cash account, you get a error message. Fine. Good Message.

THE PROBLEM STARTS HERE: Make the change in the investment account. It takes OK. Still fine.

But the Cash account still reflects the previous Security.

The user has to delete the original transaction in the investment account (which deletes it in both accounts) and re-enter it in the investment account with the corrected security name. Changing the Date or Amount in the investing account does correctly carry over to the linked cash account.

Good Job and if it's linked it should have entries reflected on both registers (cash-Link & security register)

The 'steps' I took were quite straight forward.

    • Create any transaction in in an investment account with a linked cash account that uses the cash side (Buy, Sell, Dividend, Interest, etc)
    • Change or correct the security involved.
    • The Cash-side transaction continues to show with the original security rather than corrected security.

As a troubleshooting exercise, one can undo the linked cash setup and then redo it. The redo will reflect the changed or corrected security, but that is a generally ill-advised step that can have unintended consequence and cause lost data if the cash-side account has its own set of transactions.

For me as a work around, instead of deleting and readding the transaction, I'm just putting a "note" (the in the linked Cash transaction) of the security on the transaction (quicken allows this).

But I should not have to do this because when linked it should be linked with changes reflected in both (investment register and the linked investment cash register)
