How to exclude an account from one step update

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I'm on Mac version 8.0.1

I have an RBC account which (due to a longstanding unresolved problem with RBC and/or Quicken) fails to update if i have the RBC 2FA enabled (notification on my phone from the RBC app).

In order to download transactions from this account i need to log in to RBC, disable their 2FA, run the update from Quicken, then go back to RBC and re-enable 2FA.

However, if i leave this account with downloads configured, and run a one-step update to update all my accounts, it always tries to connect, fails, and at some point RBC will lock me out due to multiple failed logins.

I'd like to leave downloads for this account configured, but exclude it from one step update unless i run it manually for the account.

With Quicken Windows, i can edit the one step download list, but I can't find any way to do so on the Mac version.

If anyone knows how to do this please let me know…

thanks

    Hello @nothear2talk,

Unfortunately, Quicken for Mac does not currently have a built-in option to exclude specific accounts from Update All Accounts while keeping downloads configured, unlike the Windows version. However, here are a few possible workarounds to manage your RBC account without triggering failed login attempts:

    1. [Removed - Wrong Platform]
    2. Temporarily Disable Online Services for RBC
      • Go to Accounts > Settings > Downloads, and disconnect online services for the RBC account.
      • When you need to update, reconnect online services, run the update, and then disconnect again.
      • This prevents Quicken from trying to access RBC during One Step Update.
    3. Set RBC as a Manual Account
      • If RBC frequently locks you out, consider converting the account to a manual entry account.
      • You can periodically download transactions as a QFX file from RBC’s website and import them manually.
    4. Use a Secondary Quicken File for RBC
      • If RBC is the only problematic account, you could create a separate Quicken file for just that account.
      • This prevents One Step Update from ever attempting to connect to RBC in your main file.

    I hope this helps!

Hi Jasmine… I want to point out a couple of things. There is nothing called "One Step Update" on the Mac side. It's called "Update All Accounts" in the Accounts menu. It confuses Mac users when we use the wrong terminology.

Also, regarding #1 above, if the RBC account is configured as Quicken Connect, you can't update just that one account. It will update whenever any QC account is updated. Plus you won't be able to use Update All Accounts for all the other accounts as it will always include RBC. That said, your other three suggestions are spot on.

Hmmm … if these were my accounts, I'd keep 2FA disabled for all of them until such time someone can figure out why 2FA doesn't work for one of them.

    Just my 2¢.

Thank you for this! Sometimes the platform wires get crossed in the brain, I have updated my response to remove the incorrect terminology and just that step in general as RBC does only offer Quicken Connect with their main instance.

thanks all for the suggestions. I have disabled downloads for the RBC accounts and will try downloading QFX files next time.

@Jasmine do you know whether Quicken is working with RBC to determine root cause of the 2FA bug and correct the problem? I only have 2 RBC accounts with minimal activity so it’s a relatively minor annoyance. However, for other RBC customers with multiple active accounts this will be a showstopper for using Quicken.

Note that it is also true that Quicken/RBC don’t support detailed transactions for brokerage accounts, only position tracking. Any idea if there is work going on to address this as well?

    Thanks

BTW I am otherwise impressed with 8.0.1 on Mac and have switched from the windows version, which I was running on my Mac using Crossover.
