After Windows Quicken Update to R61.17, Gear Icon Upper Right of Registers is Missing Again

This is the same problem as the closed discussion topic from a year ago, January 2024:
UI Element Missing: No Settings Gear on Registers
UI Element Missing: No Settings Gear on Registers — Quicken
The solution for me was the same as presented by @Chris_QPW and @Hossy in the previous closed discussion
- Copy your data file in Quicken using the "Create a copy or template" option in File>Copy or Backup File (use earliest possible date to current date to copy the entire file)
- Open the copy file — the gear icon is displayed again above the plus sign in upper right of register — (but note that the accounts in the copy are disconnected from online services)
- Open the original file again, and the gear icon should be displayed as normal.
The earlier discussion also mentioned that the problem could recur, but I haven't seen it again until after this latest update.

Unfortunately, the solution above wasn't lasting. Simply creating a complete backup caused the gear icon to disappear again in the original file. Opening the copy did not display the gear icon, but then opening the original after opening the copy brought back the icon. So the problem is intermittent.
BTW, this issue happened on two different computers today.

Thank you for your reply,
Thank you for the additional information. Did this happen in the same Quicken file on two different devices, or did this happen with different Quicken files? Which operating system do the computers use? If you're opening the same Quicken file on both computers, what method are you using to share the file?
I look forward to your reply!

Same Quicken file on two different computers.
One computer is Windows 11, one computer is Windows 10.
Sharing is accomplished by closing Quicken and copying the most recent Quicken data files from the last computer that used Quicken to the second computer over LAN. In all cases, Quicken and the data file are run locally on each computer.
I noticed that today Quicken on the Windows 11 machine displayed the gear icon in the register from the get-go. My use of Quicken today was limited to running it and extending the membership by 1 year with an activation code. I wonder if it's possible that the banner warning that the Quicken subscription will expire soon has anything to do with this issue, especially since the last time I experienced it (referenced above in previous closed discussion) was about a year ago before extending the subscription at that time. However, other users have also had the gear icon disappear in registers.

Thank you for your reply,
To test if this is a file-specific issue or not, please try creating a new "test" file and seeing if the behavior happens in that completely new file. It is recommended to save a backup before proceeding with troubleshooting steps in the event that you would like to return to your original starting position. Below are instructions on how to create a test file:
- Choose File menu > New Quicken File.
- Select New Quicken File
- Click OK
- In the File name field, enter the name of the new file, then click Save. Use a name like "Test File" to tell it apart from your main file. Avoid using any of these characters: * ? < > | " : \ / (asterisk, question mark, left and right-angle bracket, pipe, straight quotation marks, colon, BACKSLASH, FORWARD SLASH). Also, don't add the .qdf extension; Quicken does that for you.
- Select to not use Mobile.
- Click Add Account to start adding accounts to the new file.
You do not need to add a connected account. Just creating an offline account should work to confirm if the gear icon vanishes or not.
Once you are done in the test file, you can switch back to your main file by following the directions in this article (How to alternate between multiple files section). Please let me know what happens in the test file!
Thank you.

@Quicken Kristina, thanks for the troubleshooting directions to test whether the problem is file specific or not. Currently, I'm no longer experiencing the issue, so I'm not going to pursue a solution for the time being. (Perhaps renewing the subscription and/or removing the subscription warning banner was connected to the problem?) If the missing gear icon in a register manifests itself again in the future, I will follow your test file instructions. Also, some other users may have the same problem and find this discussion while searching for a solution. Sorry not to follow through to definitively get to the source of the problem. Thanks!

Thank you for the follow-up,
I'm glad to hear it's currently not happening.
If the issue returns, please try creating a test file and let me know what happens!
Thank you!

Just wondering …
could this be a problem caused by using hi-res display monitors or more than one monitor?Font size problems? Display issues? (Windows)
Please try the following:
- Close Quicken !!! (This process won't work while Quicken is running!)
- Check the Compatibility tab settings in your Quicken Desktop program icon:
- In the Windows Start Menu right-click the Quicken icon. Select "Open File Location". This brings up a Windows File Explorer window. Right-click the highlighted Quicken shortcut line item.
or
- Go to the traditional Windows Desktop and right-click the Quicken program icon.
or
- Use Windows File Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\ and right-click qw.exe
- Now click Properties.
- Select the Compatibility tab.
- Uncheck all settings.
- Windows 7, 8.1: Check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
- Windows 10, 11: Click "Change high DPI settings". Check "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:" and select "Application" (also try the other available options repeating the entire procedure!). Click OK.
Users with high resolution monitors, 3840x2160 with 225% scaling, try "System (Enhanced)"
Be sure to uncheck the "Run this program in compatibility mode for [older Windows version]" setting.
- Click the "Change settings for all users" button.
- Click Apply and exit.
- Reboot Windows. Now start Quicken and see if that makes a difference.

why should we have to do that. The icon missing is not a data file issue, it is an application issue.
