One Step Update doesn't try to download from credit union account

Quicken Classic Business & Personal for Windows R61.17 (latest)

When I run One Step Update, it doesn't try to access my primary bank (Resource One Credit Union) for hours at a time. I know it doesn't try because this bank requires 2FA every time - it doesn't cache like other institutions. So when I run OSU for all accounts, or just for this bank, it does not go through the 2FA process. There is no error returned, and it says "3 accounts updated, 0 new transactions" when there are indeed new transactions waiting to be downloaded.

Eventually, after several hours of Quicken not trying, it will prompt for 2FA, and then the new transactions download.

Is there some sort of delay or required interval between OSU attempts for this bank? I ask because it always works the first time I run OSU each morning. But frequently, when I run OSU for the first time, today's transactions for this bank have not yet posted (per the bank's website). Then, on subsequent OSU attempts, after today's transactions have posted and are available on the bank's website, Quicken does not try to access the account, seemingly for several hours.

I browsed through various log files and I don't see any messages relevant to this issue.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

The first troubleshooting step I would try is to Reset the account.

Next, try deactivating and reactivating the account.

There is nothing wrong with the account, neither with the bank nor within Quicken. The problem is with OSU.

This morning I waited until after today's transactions had posted, then ran OSU at 7:05am EST and it worked perfectly. I tried again just now (7:59am EST) and it did not try to access the accounts, but claimed in the OSU Summary that it did.

Something is throttling the frequency with which OSU checks the accounts with this bank.

After the successful OSU at 7:05am EST today, I tried OSU eight additional times - it never tried to access this bank. A few minutes ago, at 11:11am EST, OSU successfully updated accounts from this bank. I'll test further to see if four hours is the threshold.

Confirmed. Once I have successfully accessed the bank via OSU, it will not try to access again, regardless of how many times I try, until exactly four hours after the last successful OSU.

Will Support from Intuit/Quicken please weigh in?

    Hello @jknauf,

If you are connected via Express Web Connect (EWC), the most likely reason you aren't seeing attempts to communicate with the financial institution every time you update your accounts is because of the way EWC works. According to this article on the different connection methods, when using EWC: Access and retrieval of data is automated through the use of scripts and nightly aggregation. During aggregation, Quicken logs in to your online banking website on your behalf. Generally this happens once a day and outside of business hours. Because of this, you may notice login activity on your online banking website overnight.

    I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply Kristina. This cannot be the case, as the bank requires 2FA on EVERY attempted login. So Quicken cannot login to the online banking site on my behalf - I have to be involved in the process.

    Thank you for your reply,

It may be possible that this is some sort of delay or throttling on the financial institution's side. They may limit how frequently the aggregator can update a given account. Is the behavior you observe consistent on a daily basis, or is it somewhat random how long you have to wait before your update attempt gets the 2FA prompt and it updates in Quicken again?

Do any of your other financial institutions that are connected to your Quicken file behave this way? Does it make any difference whether you update all financial institutions at once or whether you update them one at a time?

    Thank you!

You may be correct - the bank is a small credit union and they may have introduced limitations. If so, I'll just have to learn to deal with it.

Yes, the behavior is very consistent. I can set a timer for 3:58 hours/minutes after OSU and it will not ask for 2FA. Two minutes later it will work.

All other banks/accounts work regardless of how frequently I run OSU.

The behavior is the same whether I update all accounts, or if I only try to update this one institution.

    Thank you for your help!
