Starting over with quicken

Hello I used quicken this last year and due to not knowing what I was doing it's a mess. I want to completely start over with it now. I do still want to see some of the info from last year like all my invoices. Can I start completely from scratch with quicken but still be able to view stuff from the backup file from last year when I need to?

    Hello @degoertzen,

We appreciate you reaching out! Yes, you can absolutely start fresh with a new Quicken file while still being able to access your previous data when needed.

To start over, you can create a new data file by navigating to File > New Quicken File and following the prompts. This will allow you to set up your accounts from scratch without affecting your old data.

Whenever you need to reference your previous information, you can easily switch back to your old file. Simply go to File, and at the bottom of the menu (just above the Exit option), you’ll see a list of recently opened files.

From there, select your previous file to open so you can review your past invoices and other data from the old file.

Alternatively, you can also restore saved backups from the previous file. For instructions on restoring a backup, please refer to this support article.

Let us know if you need further guidance!

@degoertzen, in my experience, starting over after referencing previous information is faster and cleaner than fixing an existing messy Quicken data file. It's also allows for easy of tweaking categories and the like. Good luck on your endeavor.
