Make Tags hierarchical to help with tracking Option Trading, among other uses

Thanks again @Quicken Kristina
While I understand that Quicken cannot be everything to everyone, I still prefer to rely on Quicken as much as possible, minimizing the use of Excel spreadsheets and Python scripts for various reasons.
I propose adding a feature to QMac that would significantly aid in tracking option trading and be useful in other contexts. My current solution is to tag all transactions that constitute a trade with a prefix and a sequence number. For example, I use 'inv_otrade' for option trading in my investment accounts, followed by a sequence number like 'inv_trade_00145'. The report feature allows transactions to be organized by tag and sorted by date within a tag group. This grouping minimizes the work needed outside Quicken to compute taxes and performance, and it preserves sufficient information to easily reconstruct the sequence of a trade. Some trades span years and involve numerous transactions, making it difficult to remember details without additional external information. Even without external notes you can easily reconstruct (in your head) a complex trade that took places years ago if tagged this way.
The issue is that my Tag Window is cluttered with tags starting with the 'inv_otrade' prefix. I have to manually keep track of the sequence numbers. It would be helpful if only the prefixes of these tags were shown in the Tag Window, with a small disclosure triangle to expand or collapse the sequence numbers. Additionally, Quicken should offer the next available sequence number or allow the use of an existing number when assigning a prefix tag to a transaction. The reporting feature should enable grouping by prefix tag sequence numbers or display all transactions for a particular prefix. In essence, I propose making tags hierarchical.
This feature could be applied in various situations. For example, you could tag all your vacation expenses with the same prefix and still generate an expense report for a specific vacation.0 -
Thank you for your reply @t34hansen,
I split your response from the main discussion and converted it to an Idea post. Ideas that get enough votes may be implemented in the future!
Thank you!
