Validate and Repair File Issue

Whenever I've had random problems over the years and I perform the "validate and repair file" function, the file always seems to show as validated but it always has one or two sets of notes on the validation log (2 pics attached)… sometimes it'll have both sets of the notes on it, other times just the bottom set of notes. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Hello @Brad95X,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community with this question. When it says "Unspecified Account", that usually means that Quicken is seeing a transfer to an account that it can't find in the file. Do you have an transfers that involve an account you've deleted from the file at some point? If you don't, then that may indicate a file issue.
When did you first notice these notes appearing? Are you performing these validates to correct issues in your file?
I look forward to your reply!

- I don't remember deleting any accounts but I've been using Quicken since 2009 so it's possible that I did. Also I was using an online backup file as my active file for awhile… before I knew that that could cause problems. I will leave this issue alone for now.
- Regarding the 2nd set of notes on the validation log, I have tried renaming and deleting the "missing categories" that Quicken added to get rid of this note on the validation log, but I cannot get rid of that note. Any suggestions?
Thank you

Thank you for your reply,
Are any of the problem categories in use? If so, do the transactions that use those categories reflect correctly?
You mentioned that you run Validate when you encounter random problems. What problems prompted this latest Validate? Did running the Validate correct the issue?
Thank you!

- Yes the problem categories are in use ( but they usually only have one entry per year) and they do reflect correctly. I was only trying to get rid of that "added missing category" note in the validation log.
- I had run the validate file in an attempt to get rid of a yellow "Communications Error" message in the OSU summary, but I have since resolved that issue.

Thank you for your reply,
If you want to continue troubleshooting the issue, you may want to check for any duplicate or extremely similar categories. You can do that by going to Tools>Category List, make sure Show hidden categories is checked, make sure the dropdown is set to Full List, then review to see if there are any other categories with the same (or similar) names to the problem ones.
That may resolve the issue if the problem is being caused by duplicate or very similar categories.
There is a help article with more troubleshooting you can do for file specific issues, however, if these categories identified in the validate log aren't causing problems in your file, further troubleshooting would not be beneficial.
I hope this helps!
