Allow deletion of one or more Reconciliations without clearing entire reconciliation history (Q Mac)

Sometimes, if a transaction(s) in the past has been somehow deleted or changed, the Reconciliation History will show an error, and trying to fix that error often pushes Quicken's perceived discrepancy to the next month — a game of whack-a-mole which can be frustratingly difficult to resolve. Currently, the only way to start over with reconciliations is a "nuclear" option to Clear History, which deletes ALL reconciliations for the account and marks all transactions as unreconciled. What is needed is the ability to delete one or multiple reconciliations back to the time the reconciliation discrepancies started so the user can then re-do reconciliations of the months moving forward, without errors.

Quicken's reconciliation history stores a list of every transaction reconciled in each reconciliation, so deleting a reconciliation history and clearing the status of the transactions should be do-able. If it requires clearing everything back to the selected reconciliation — to not leave an unreconciled month between months which remain reconciled — that would be okay; it would still be better than the current Clear History going back to the start of the account.

I ditto this request. I was just searching to see if there was a way to unreconciled the last 2 months as I have a transaction that shows reconciled in the register, but is still in the recon window difference.

Interesting that I have the same issue with reconciling. Going a a couple of months would be helpful,. But, solving the problem would be better.

I am new to Quicken, and I set it up for automatic reconciliation with the bank. I need to change that back. Do you have any idea how to do that?

@Angel Eyes Right click on the account in the sidebar, select Account Settings, and on the Downloads tab uncheck the Auto-Reconcile options at the bottom. At least that's how you do it in Quicken Mac. If you're using Quicken Windows (as your profile says) then you should ask over in one of the Quicken Windows forums, perhaps this one:

I am using Quicken Classic Deluxe for Mac. I carelessly deleted a reconciled transaction that was a few months old, and now the Reconcile dialog shows an incorrect Quicken Balance for Cleared Transactions. It includes the deleted amount. I verified that the true Cleared Transactions amount is $0. My register looks fine. I'd like to be able to go back and unreconcile transactions just back to that point in time.

Or better yet, fix the Reconcile dialog so it picks up the actual Quicken Balance for Cleared Transactions from the register rather than use the value cached in Reconcile History (or wherever it is getting that incorrect amount).

This is my feature request, so I clearly think it's worthwhile. 😉

While I haven't had too many reconciliation problems myself, I do see many, repeated instances in the Community Forum where people get messed up in their reconciliations due to added, deleted or modified transactions. It would be incredibly helpful to be able to have them delete their most recent one or more reconciliations and re-do them than to have to do bogus adjustments to work around problems, or to delete there entire reconciliation history to start over. I really hope this Idea can make it to be seen by the developers in order to solve a pain point for many users.

For any users who have ever had a problem with reconciliations out of sync due to a deleted or changed transaction, please add your vote above and your comment below.

I haven't had many reconciliation problems, but I did have a problem with my longest held credit card's reconciliation history a couple years ago. I never did figure out what caused the original problem but I ran into the same whack-a-mole issue that @jacobs describes at the top of the thread where re-reconciling one month pushed the error to the next month, and wound up having to delete the entire reconciliation history for that account & re-reconcile about 14 years worth of transactions to straighten it out.
