ETF share updates are not matching within Quicken

I am using Quicken Premier on a laptop running Windows 11 Home. I bought SCHG ETF through Schwab and imported the purchase using the One Step Update. The Quicken process asks for confirmation on the new ticker symbol and ETF name, which I successfully did to complete the update. However, when getting subsequent updates, the current price is not downloaded and Update Summary doesn't match them up. It shows the:

  • Correct number of shares reported from Schwab with no matching shares in Quicken ,and
  • Correct number of shares in Quicken with no matching shares at Schwab.

How can I resolve this?

Here are screenshots of the "mismatch" messages along with the details given. I run the One Step Update at least once per week as well as the Quicken Investing Page Update.

Thank you for following up and providing those screenshots. I apologize for the delay in my response, as I am just now seeing your message.

Since two of your screenshots indicate that Quicken hasn't downloaded transactions in 90 days, I suspect there may be a connection issue. To troubleshoot, I recommend deactivating all Charles Schwab accounts under the same username in Quicken, unlinking them directly in your Charles Schwab online account, and then reactivating/reauthorizing them in Quicken.

Please follow the steps below to complete this process (be sure to save a backup of your file before you begin—just in case):

    1. Deactivate all Charles Schwab accounts under the same username in Quicken
    2. Unlink accounts in your Charles Schwab online account
      • Log in to your online account at Charles Schwab's website.
      • Select Profile (top right corner).
      • Click Security Settings.
      • Scroll to the bottom of the page.
      • Locate Third-Party Access to Account Information and unlink the accounts.
    3. Reactivate accounts in Quicken
      • Return to Quicken and follow the reactivation instructions in this support article—when you reach the last step to link the accounts, be sure to carefully relink them to your existing accounts. image.png

Let us know how it goes!

I followed the process as outlined above. Unfortunately, I continue to get the same error messages.

    Hello @GBE,

    Thank you for following up.

Since you’ve gone through the reauthorization process and are still receiving the same error messages, are you noticing any patterns with when the mismatch occurs—such as after a specific update or on certain days? When reviewing your account holdings in Quicken, does SCHG appear under multiple entries, or is it consistently listed under a single security? Additionally, do the transactions for SCHG show correctly in the transaction register, or are any purchases, sales, or reinvestments missing?

Let me know what you’re seeing, and we can continue troubleshooting from there.

Seems to me, your issue is that your security in Quicken is not correctly matched with the online (brokerage downloaded) security. With a good backup at hand just in case, I would

    • edit the security details in Quicken and uncheck the box for “Matched with…”.
    • From the account transaction list, I would then use the gear icon (upper right) to Reconcile Shares.
    • That should allow you to correctly match the security and may do it automatically.

    Hope this helps
