How to start fresh on bank Recons

Hello @Blue44,
Thanks for reaching out!
Currently, Quicken for Windows does not have a built-in "Undo Last Reconciliation" feature. However, you can still reset your reconciliation process manually by adjusting the cleared (C) and reconciled (R) statuses of transactions. Here's how you can start fresh:
- Identify the last successful reconciliation – Look at your previous Reconciliation Reports (Reports > Banking > Reconciliation Report) to determine the last time your balance was correct.
- Manually reset reconciled transactions – Open your checking account register and locate transactions that were incorrectly reconciled. Click in the Clr (Cleared) column and change "R" (Reconciled) back to "C" (Cleared) or leave it blank.
- Reconcile again – Once you've reset the incorrect reconciliations, go to Accounts > Reconcile and begin the process from the last correct balance.
If the reconciliation is severely off and difficult to fix manually, another option is to restore a backup from before the issue occurred (File > View/Restore Backups). This would allow you to return to a point where the reconciliation was accurate and try again from there.
Let me know if you need further clarification!

So I did as you said—removed the "Rs" from everything back to January 22—the last date that the account reconciled through Quicken correctly. But when I go to start reconciling the two months since then I don't get past the error message that says "Enter a valid date" for the reconciliation. It's too bad there's not a way to simply start from scratch.

Hi @Blue44,
If you don’t mind, could you please provide a screenshot of the error message you described receiving? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments. Please remember to redact any personal information as needed.
Thanks!

Actually, my error. I did see how to go back and redo—in my case since January. The tricky part is figuring out what hadn't cleared as of 1/22/2025—the last date it reconciled. Almost there at this point.

Well, I got close. Still off by about $750. I plugged that amount and hope the difference will make itself visible next month.
Unintended consequence;—don't know how or why but all my Bill and Income reminders vanished. Can't imagine what caused that to happen. Also, the program has me save the recon, but it won't let me print it.

Thanks for coming back to update us!
I am glad you are getting closer to being back on track! What exactly occurs when attempting to print your reconcile page? Are you receiving any error codes?

Hi @Blue44,
That is great news! You had previously mentioned being unable to print the reconciliation, but I am happy to hear that you were able to figure it out!

Hopefully the program can be fixed so that reconciliations can be started again from scratch. The problem with it now is that once you go forward with an error that can't be fixed, you're cooked. Starting fresh should be routine when necessary.

Hello @Blue44,
I understand where you are coming from!
To request this feature to be added in the future, what you can do is create an idea post. This way, other users who have the same or a similar request can vote on your idea.
Have a wonderful day!
