Trying to convert Q 2001 data file to update, Q2004 not opening file

I'm trying to help my father update his computer. He's using Quicken 2001 on Windows 10., and I know his data file needs to be updated to run on most newer versions. I'm following the directions here: https://www.quicken.com/support/how-and-when-use-intermediate-version-convert-older-versions-quicken/
1. I don't want to risk his functioning installation on his current computer, so I've downloaded and installed Quicken 2004 onto my computer (which didn't previously have any Quicken installation on it).
2. I've copied from his computer to mine
2a. The 4 source files that his current installation uses, and
2b. A current backup file.
3. I'm not able to open either data set in Quicken 2004 on my computer, either via "Open" or "Restore from Backup".
I contacted support and they said they're not able to give more help than is on that web page. Does anyone here have suggestions on how to get past this, or know anyone who might do consulting to help with this sort of problem?
There are about 20 years of records in that old system. He's ready to upgrade to a subscription version, but not without his data.
Really, really appreciate any help. Thank you!

Hello @pames38,
Thank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, since older versions of Quicken are no longer supported, Support has very little information available to help troubleshoot.
What is happening when you try to open the 2001 file in Quicken 2004? Are you seeing any error messages? If so, what is the exact message you see? If not, what is happening when you attempt to open the file?
I look forward to your response!

@pames38 Why @Q2004? And which Q product is Q2001, and which product Q2004? Because a current (subscription) version of the same product will have fewer install/conversions than the antiquated Q2004.
You can get the info re: those products at HELP, About Quicken in each.
Also, in Q2004, which BUILD, which is also at that Help link.?

Quicken Kristina:
I get the following error when I try to OPEN the old file in 2004.I get the same error when I try to restore from backup using the old backup file.
Note: Quicken doesn't seem to recognize my old backup file as a backup file - see screen cap below. One more detail that might be relevant: I downloaded and installed the 2004 package from that link, but the product I installed says it's 2013:
Here's the file name I downloaded and installed:
(NotACPA: I have to go to 2004 to convert the old file type up a level, so we can go with a newer version going forward. We're planning to use the subscription version once we get there.)0
