What/where is the DEFAULT Quicken file?

I have been doing dated/timed backups to an external drive G: . I know when I close a session without backing up, my work is saved. Where is it saved by default? When I backup first and then close, does Quicken also save my work to the default location? Which file does the drop-down list refer to when I try to come back to that file? I am working in 4 different files and after working in several, one file drops off of the drop-down list, so I need to know where the default copy lives.

Any "saved" file is saved back into the file you opened it from. There's no such thing as a "Save as" in Q.
And when you open Q, it defaults to opening the last file used, unless you click on a File icon to open it.
And, if you click on the FILE menu in Q, it will show the last few files opened starting the 1, the most recent.

For most people, the default location for the primary data files is the same. File > Open Quicken File should open that location where you would see all the primary data files.
If your "missing" data file is not located there you can go to File > Find Quicken Files. This will search your hard drive for all Quicken data files (including backups).
If you are looking for the default location for backup files: Edit > Preferences > Backup > Open / Change.
Did this help you find the file?
