I am using Quicken Classis Premier version R62.16 on a Windows 10 PC and have never had a problem in the past 10 years or so. Today, I downloaded some transactions from my bank and everything was fine in my checking, savings and credit card accounts. I accepted a few transactions and backed up the file (I do it every day with the date appended). I left the PC for about 5 minutes and all of my checking account register dates had changed. All of my 2025 transactions now are dated 2014 as well as earlier transactions. I did not check the other accounts and pulled in today’s backup with the same problem. I then pulled in yesterday’s database and pulled in the downloaded QFX files and accepted them and now everything is fine. I backed up the file and pulled in back in overwriting my current file and it is still OK. I have no idea what caused the glitch, but I am OK for now.

Neither you, nor the OP demonstrated that it was a Q error, just that it manifest in Q. MAY (unknown because not disclosed by the OP) it have manifest elsewhere if the OP had looked elsewhere.

YOUR response is unsatisfactory. The OP's issue is resolved. What other "fix" could there be???

And, it kinda sounds like a corrupted data file to me.

Thank you for 'mansplaining'. Quicken has far too many errors to be acceptable. How do data files become corrupted except if done so by the program?

@Paul_in_MA your experience with the dates spontaneously changing is indeed odd. I bookmarked your post to see if anyone could provide an explanation. So far nothing and you may never get the "how and why". But as you found out, good backups can be a lifesaver.

PC crashes in the middle of a Q write operation are but a single example.

Flaw on the hard drive are another.

Data stored, and accessed, from online storage but a 3rd.

I am the OP. This PC I use is extremely stable and I am guessing that when I pressed Control B to backup, that this is what triggered the problem. This problem has not reoccurred though I verify the dates are correct after backing up my data each time.

Are you sure that this problem wasn't caused by an unintentional mouse click while moving the pointer across the Quicken window and clicking on one of the column headers? This would cause the register to be sorted differently. For example, clicking on the Date column header would change the sort order to "by Date Descending" showing oldest transactions first.
I managed to do that myself, years ago, and was puzzled for a while about what happened until I noticed the "▲" next to the Date column title having changed to "▼" … Oops :-(

No, Control B only. As for the dates, the transactions in my register were correct and had the correct date with just the year being changed. My register for my checking account starts in 2009 as I had archived older date. Your advice is good for some of use that fat-finger an entry.

@Paul_in_MA - there are shortcut keys that control dates in Quicken. If you use these keys, you would see how easy it is to change a date without realizing it. I was shocked to see how easy it was. You don't even need to use "Ctrl" or "Shift". If your cursor is on a date, all you need to do is press a letter and the date changes.

I am not saying that this is what happened to you, but it just shows that dates in Quicken are easily altered and it's easy to ignore the "Transaction Changed" confirmation because it doesn't tell you what changed and it's very easy to just click "Ok".
