Make user-defined field where users can type in the type of investment something is. This information can then be downloaded and allow a user to easily explore the value of their mutual funds, stocks, ETFs, etc..

Each security has a Security Type, which I think is what you are looking for. The standard types are Stock, Bond, CD, Mutual fund, etc., and you can define your own types. This is set on the security's Security Detail page.

There is not a separate column in the Investing > Portfolio views for the Security Type, but you can group the views by Security Type, which will show subtotals.

    Does this meet your needs?

    Hello @tlsher,

Thank you for taking the time to post your Idea request.

Ideas are reviewed by our Development and Product teams to see what features people would like to have available in the future. This way other users who have the same or a similar request can vote on your idea by clicking the up arrow (see example below).

Please, be sure to add your own vote as well.

Am I just mis-remembering … because I thought that when an Idea post was created, it automatically got the OP's vote counted.

    Hello @NotACPA,

Normally, yes. But at the time I posted this response, there was an issue where the voting box wasn’t appearing on new Ideas. Since that issue has been fixed, it didn’t automatically add the OP’s vote which is why I responded and requested that they add their own vote.

    Hope this clarifies things!
