What date would you use if your bank gives you early pay?

I have a few deposits that my bank gives me early pay for, 2 or 3 days early. They are crediting the funds as soon as they receive the payment information rather than waiting for the funds to fully clear. I just wonder what others do, should I leave it as I have it scheduled on the first of the month, or should I change the date to match the date it says on the downloaded transaction.

Right or wrong, since I have reminders set to show up in the register a few days early with the "correct" date, I change the reminder's date so that Quicken will then match the "early" downloaded transaction to the reminder and not create a new transaction which would duplicate the reminder.

Some folks may need to access those funds early, but I find the whole thing a hassle since it messed up a setup that had worked perfectly for years without fiddling with the dates.

  • I leave the date as the post date on Quicken because even though the funds are available 3 days early, the deposit doesn't post at your FI until the actual deposit date. Whenever possible I always match the post date on Quicken with the FI. I just know that the funds are pending and available.

I'd rely upon the printed statement from the bank to make the determination going forward … since you'd want your Q account to be reconcilable with the statement.
