Seasonal Dissonance Check-In...

Hello everyone, and welcome to the wonderful heat wave!

Some people hear "July" and think of beaches, barbecues, and whatever else is on a seasonal candle label.

Others? Not so much.

Let’s make this interesting: What’s the most non-summer thing about you right now?

Are you wearing all black in 100 degrees?
Reading horror novels while everyone’s posting vacation pics?
Still pretending it's October? 🎃

I’ll go first: I’m drinking hot coffee, wearing Doc Martens, and avoiding sunlight like it owes me money. 😂

Your turn!

This past weekend I remembered that the lights on the bottom half of our Christmas tree went out. So I’ve been browsing online for new pre-lit Christmas trees. 😁

I suppose the most non-summer thing about me is I never wear shorts, and I have my omnipresent jacket (the jacket is for indoors because many businesses chill the air too much for my comfort).

  • It is not easy to be "non-summery" here right now in the So Cal desert. It was around 111 and we were just out in back enjoying some relaxation in the shade. Winter thoughts are far away but the one thing I always like no matter how hot it gets is a good hot cup of coffee. After coming in from the heat outside, the first thing I did was make myself a cup of coffee.

I'm 82 years old and retired. Right now I can't spend much time outdoors in the heat, so here I am laying in bed at 10:00am with my second cup of coffee. Project for the day is updating our investment accounts from downloaded statements. Wife and I are missing our 'merlot time' on the deck or patio due to the heat wave..

My QW records contain a complete history of my savings and investing since my first retirement plan in 1974. Also have a history of an insurance plan with interest and dividends my Dad started for me in 1943.

I put on my winter snow boots with while wearing shorts to power-wash my deck…my neighbor said I looked like cousin Eddie.

  • @Jeff76 I wonder how many people here get the reference to cousin Eddie?

I assumed cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation, but do correct me if there's another one. 😅

  • @Quicken Anja you got it! Hilarious movie. He was in several of the vacation movies, but he is best known in Christmas Vacation.

@CaliQkn I thought so. And yes, great movie!

First I needed to look up what 'dissonance' & 'Doc Martens' were 🤔 Hoping that Doc Martens were some new type of sultry nightgowns, but turned out to be just a pair of dumb shoes! Anyway, back to topic on hand. Normally don't paint in summer. But trying to follow shade around my house to do tiny bit of touch up painting. It's hot, but hey this is the Sunny Southland after all. What get's you though is the humidity; thick enough to cut it with a knife! Then still hiking a bit. Again, after about 1 hour of trapsing about in the woods; I come out with sweat dripping off my fingertips. People say 'you must be crazy'. I reply, 'Yep, but I ain't dead yet' 😎

Not sure if this is appropriate or not, but I have the AC set so low that I need to wear a sweater…

Most everyone cuts their grass in coolest part of the day. I'm getting up in years, but try to cut mine (using a push mower) in the hottest part of the day (use SPF 50 sunscreen, big wide brimmed hat & long sleeve shirt). Why do this, folks always ask me? I'm getting up in years now, & just like the challenge; prove to myself 'I can do this'!? I know, "Only mad dogs, and Englishmen, go out in the mid-day sun", and ME 😉 Besides, I ain't dead, YET? 🤣 PS. Some of you regulars might remember few months back about my sputtering & then go dead lawnmower. Guess what? FINALLY found the true reason for that problem about month back. The breather vent in gas cap was clogged, mower couldn't get enough oxygen to run more than about 20 minutes. So simple. Unclogged that vent, runs great now, now problems 😲
