How to enter a cash origin in a Buy - Shares Bought transaction

I have been using Quicken for decades. I have a new problem, never encountered before. I try to enter a Buy - Shares Bought transaction into a single mutual fund account. When I try to indicate the origin of the cash used for this transaction and click on the From box, a list of some of my accounts that contain cash, mainly bank accounts, appears, but it does not include the account from which the cash came, and I cannot enter it manually. This is a new glitch that I have never seen before. Can you help?

@MoeBr check the Display Options tab in Account Details, and make sure the source account is not hidden in any way.
You can also try doing a data file validate or super validate, and see if that fixes the issue.
Click on File → Validate and Repair File, and select "Validate File". Review the validate log for any issues or "to-do's". To do a super validate, hold Ctrl-Shift while clicking on "Validate and Repair File".

Hello CaliQkn
Thanks for your answer.
My brokerage account from which the cash came is hidden in the account bar and the account list, only, but not elsewhere. It has been like this for years and the problem is new.
The Validate and Repair file did not show any "to-do" items.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks,
MoeBr

Excellent. I have unhidden both the single mutual fund account and the brokerage account from which the cash came. The brokerage account appeared in the list of accounts when I clicked From in the Buy - Shares Bought box. And I was able to complete the transaction in my Quicken. Will I have to keep them unhidden? I never had this problem before.

@MoeBr it seems like Quicken has been cleaning up some lose ends in their programming that allowed things to be done that shouldn't have.
When you hide an account, it is assumed that you do not want to see this account in any dropdown list. It does make sense to me.
As for keeping it unhidden, you might want to try checking and unchecking those boxes to determine which one actually controls the account from showing in the dropdown list.

Is this option no longer available with R63.21? I sure hope it has not been removed.
You can also uncheck this box in Tools > Manage Hidden Accounts.

@Boatnmaniac The option is still there but it does not behave as I would have expected in this case.
The "Hide in transaction entry lists" option is there but for me it did not have any impact on the account selection dropdown we are discussing here.
When checked, the "Hide account name in account bar and account list" option removed the account from the Cash source dropdown, which I would not expect.

Well, it looks like a bug has been identified. I double checked with my R62.16 install and this same issues exists with it. So, it is not something that was introduced with R63.XX. I wonder when this functionality with Investment accounts got broken or removed?
I tried doing a transfer from one Spending account to a 2nd Spending account where the 2nd Spending account is Hidden and "hide in transaction entry" lists was checked.
- As expected, the 2nd Spending account could not be selected for the transfer transaction.
- I then checked the box for "Show Hidden Hidden Category" in the category drop-down in the 1st Spending account. I was expecting the 2nd Spending account to be visible and selectable but it was not. So is this a related issue or a different issue?
I then unchecked the box for "Hide in transaction entry lists" for the 2nd Spending account in Manage Hidden Accounts. This then allowed me to select the hidden 2nd Spending account as the transfer category in the 1st Spending account. So, it appears this is not an issue with Spending accounts.

Hello Jim and Boatnmaniac,
Thanks for your interactions. I agree with Boatnmaniac that there is a bug. Will one of you report it to Quicken? I do not have access.
If it is not an issue for spending accounts, is it an issue only for investment account, which both of mine are?
You taught me to go to Manage Hidden Accounts and I could click under Hide in Transaction Entry Lists for all my accounts that are still in Quicken but have been closed for sometime. Thanks for that suggestion.
Until Quicken corrects this bug, I will know what to do if I encounter the same problem again.
Thanks to the three of you,
MoeBr

@MoeBr, @Boatnmaniac and I are users like you and have no special ability to report bugs.
I will see if I can get the attention of one of the Moderators and they may be able to follow up.

@MoeBr - All Quicken users have the ability to report issues/bugs being experienced. In Quicken Classic go to Help > Report a problem. There you can briefly describe the issue and submit the report. It would be a good idea to copy and paste the URL for this discussion thread into that report before you submit it as it will give the people at Quicken a complete picture of the issue.
