Is there a change to Fidelity NetBenefits downloading?

I was doing my OSU today and noticed that for Fidelity NetBenefits, it now is prefaced with "zzz-". I don't notice anything different, didn't expect any transactions (might get one tomorrow), and no error was triggered.

Quicken recently sent a notice that things will "improve" with Fidelity downloads. Is there anything I need to do / know / change here? When I see zzz in Quicken, I assume something is "dead".

The “zzz-” prefix typically indicates an inactive connection in preparation for a change. In this case, the connection method for Fidelity NetBenefits is beginning to transition, and this is part of that process.

No action is needed just yet—when it’s time to update the connection in your Quicken file, you’ll receive a prompt directly within the program.

We’ll be sure to share more information here in the Community as soon as it becomes available.

Can someone with Quicken confirm whether this new connection method will be closer to Direct Connect or to Express Web Connect?

I guess a better way to ask this question might be whether the new connection method will support what I see for the account when the account settings for Tracking Method is "Complete - Positions and Transactions" or what I see when the account is set to "Simple - Positions Only".

Thank you for reaching out to the Community with this question. Express Web Connect+ (EWC+) is closer to Express Web Connect in how it works. For more information, please review this article on Quicken connection types:

EWC+ can support Complete tracking, if the financial institution chooses to support it. Currently, Fidelity does intend to support it.

Please keep in mind that we're currently in the optional stage of the migration to the new connection method. Unless you are having trouble with your current connection, there is no need to rush to reauthorize your account(s).

Thanks for all of this info on the "zzz-" prefix. I noticed this with my Truist Bank accounts too. Nice to know it's temporary — and somewhat expected behavior.

Kristina. I converted to EWC+ because I was prompted to by quicken. My fidelity transactions are now downloaded in simple format even though complete is checked on the account. Is there a way to restore DC by just reauthorizing rather than restoring from back up because too much has changed since my last back up and I don’t want to reset all my non fidelity accounts

Hello @MWB,

If transactions are downloading into your Fidelity accounts, then it is using Complete investment tracking. Simple tracking would not show transactions at all.

When you say it's downloading in a simple format, could you please provide more detail about what you are seeing and what has changed?

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to go back to Direct Connect without restoring a backup from before the account(s) were migrated.

an example of what happens: I have a dividend from Fidelity that gets reinvested in the same security. In the past the transaction was downloaded as a reinvestment with number of shares/price etc. now just a simple dividend is downloaded and it doesn't even show what security the dividend came from. Interestingly when I go to the Fidelity account on the website it also shows the dividend and I have to click a down arrow to expand it to show the details. That was never the case on the website or quicken.

I am also having problems downloading info for my 401K from Fidelity NetBenefits
While I have no new transactions, the latest quotes for my NetBenefits funds stopped being updated. If I disable/enable electronic updates, the quotes will update that one time, after that they do not update.
I also have a brokerage account, an IRA and a credit card with Fidelity and they all seem to be updating correctly.

After I switched from DC to EWC+ for my Fidelity investment, IRA accounts, and 401k with Netbenefits, I had the same quote updating issues. In addition, when I did get some quotes for my 401k funds (non-public ones), they were only to 4 decimal places whereas they had been 6 decimal places for many years prior. I did report this in my posts in this board and to Quicken support. I finally restored a Quicken backup from just prior to my switch to EWC+. I have been using DC since then with no problems other than losing a few transactions. I'm dreading August 20th when Quicken/Fidelity force me back to EWC+ without fixing all these reported problems!

Kristina Here is what appears on the Fidelity website that I referenced in my post of August 15th

As I said, in the past quicken would show the full security name/dollars/shares as a reinvestment.

Now (or at least on the 8th) only shows dividend and the dollar amount. My end of July postings had this same issue.

On the website the event is described as "dividend" see top picture in attached file, but I can click the expansion arrow to show the complete transaction (see bottom of picture).

The account shows "complete tracking" checked in the general tab and I'm using EWC+ since the end of July when Quicken asked for the change over.

For now I've just gone back and manually edited the entry in quicken to reflect the complete data shown on the website. I have not had activity since 8/8/2025 to update the issue further.

The screenshot is helpful to see what is reflecting on the Fidelity side, but without log files, I have no way to verify how the data is being sent to Quicken.

Next time this issue happens, before making any manual entries/corrections in the Quicken register, please navigate the Help>Report a Problem and send a problem report with log files attached.

Please also include a sample of how it used to download (date, action, security, description, amount) and a sample of how it currently downloads (date, action, security, description, amount), so that I can check the logs to see how the data is being sent to us.

I already made manual corrections before I saw your reply but the issue is the same and persisting. attached is a new screen shot of the Fidelity side, it only shows the simple "contribution" unless I click the drop down arrow to show the purchase. When Quicken accesses this item it only downloads the simple contribution. All of my comments in the post of 8/14-16 still apply. Just as an off topic question: for Merrill should my connection be DC or EWC+ ?

Some customers have reported that reverting to Direct Connect did correct the issues they were seeing. If you want to revert to Direct Connect, I recommend that you backup your Quicken file first, just in case. Please also keep in mind that, while the migration is currently paused, Express Web Connect + will eventually be mandatory.

I have several investment accounts with Fidelity. I'm not happy with the new EWC+ method. Since the switch away from DC, I no longer get downloaded transactions with One Step Update. If I go through the arduous process of resetting the online connection, it will usually download the most recent transactions, but I have to go through this process for each account. I see a post talking about reverting to Direct Connect. How would you do that?

Also, my husband and I each have an IRA with Fidelity. When I do the OSU, the little blue dot appears before each of the IRAs as if there are new transactions. When I click on either account, it says, "Enter a valid date." There are never any new transactions. If I try to reset the online connection, it says I can't because there are downloaded transactions that need to be accepted. At the bottom of the screen, it says "Downloaded transactions(0)". If I click on Holdings, it says "Outstanding transactions to compare 1". Where is the transaction? This problem started with the switch to EWC+.

Unfortunately I won't be trying to revert to DC with Fidelity as that would take me back to the end of July and at this point I have manually updated everything plus it would break all my other bank connections that I would have to reauthorize plus Quicken is going to mandate EWC+ as you stated. I'm hoping in the meantime Quicken-Fidelity can get issues sorted out. I'm also hoping that from my examples above there is something about the way data is displayed by Fidelity in one line formats that then require a click on the expansion arrow to see the full transaction such that the single line rather than the full transaction is being sent to quicken in spite of my accounts in quicken showing "complete transactions" active.

Will EWC+ be required of all institutions (e.g. Merrill, etc.) and not just Fidelity? Most of mine are already EWC+

I can understand why restoring a backup isn't a viable option. That would be a lot of manual entries to lose and have to redo. Our teams are working with Fidelity to resolve the issues that have been identified. Hopefully they'll be able to resolve them soon.

Many financial institutions, including Merrill Lynch, are transitioning to Express Web Connect + because it is considered more secure than other connection methods (You never share or store your credentials with any 3rd party, and instead authorize through your financial institution, which then issues a token that Quicken can use to connect and update your account information). I am not aware of any plans to make it mandatory for all financial institutions.

Well it's the end of the month and issues still persist. It seems that my Fidelity brokerage account seems to down load correctly BUT my Fidelity NetBenefits accounts do not. There are multiple reinvestment entries that occur at the end of the month. Quicken lumps these all together into one larger "dividend" transaction and that is all that gets downloaded. The minor good news is that by this action it alerts me to an event and then I can go in manually and redistribute the "dividend" to the correct securities. Where are we with all this?

Same here. NetBenefits is the only problematic connection. I see contributions, but no purchases.

For what it is worth, Quicken doesn't "lump" transactions together. Fidelity is sending them wrong.

That may indeed be the issue but supposedly there is a strong Quicken-Fidelity relationship as Quicken "brands" its software as such so I think we are entitled to a fix given our subscription fees and Quicken's advertising. Plus the issue is now over one month old since the EWC+ migration (as well as a possible change at Fidelity as you point out).

@MWB My comment is just to let people know where the fix is coming from and as such the place where you might want to put "pressure on". Quicken Inc and Fidelity are definitely committed to fixing this BTW.

I'm not sure you are aware of this, but this isn't the first migration of this kind. Several other financial institutions have done this before Fidelity. It is a bit hard to judge, but none of them have gone off without a hitch. I'm with Chase, and when they converted there was at least a month of problems.

The whole reason I subscribed to Quicken in the first place is to be able my books in synch with my brokerage. When and how will I get my prorated refund for the time I am able not to synch with Fidelity?

Each dividend or contribution transaction in my Fidelity NetBenefits account requires logging directly into NetBenefits to correct the transaction to an appropriate ReinvDiv/Buy/Sell type, with the correct share qty. Fees are especially difficult because they require sell & cash, then cash and buy transactions as much of the fees are refunded.

I notice that Netbenefits view of the pages are different than a Fidelity login's views, but the account financial institution on my accounts is "Fidelity Investments". Is there a "Fidelity NetBenefits" connection currently? I could not add such an account today.
