Feedback on R64.25 Investment Account Changes – Disruptive, Misguided, and Deeply Frustrating

Dear Quicken Team,

I’m writing to express my sheer disgust and frustration with the recent changes introduced in version R64.25, specifically the overhaul of the investment account interface. What was once a clean, functional register has now been replaced with a cluttered, confusing mess of tiles and panels that I neither asked for nor wanted.

After reconnecting / reauthorizing my Fidelity accounts, when I updated and downloaded my investment data, Quicken inserted a slew of phantom transactions that completely distorted my account balance—off by over $40k. Let that sink in. Forty thousand dollars. Gone, according to Quicken. And for what? A misguided attempt at visual flair that sacrificed accuracy, usability, and trust.

There was no warning. No opt-out. No “would you like to try this new view?” Just a forced change that disrupted my workflow and made it harder to do the one thing Quicken is supposed to help with: track my finances reliably.

This wasn’t an enhancement—it was a regression. The new interface is non-intuitive, noisy, and frankly insulting to long-time users who rely on precision and clarity. If I want a portfolio overview, I know where to find it. Don’t shove it in my face every time I open an account. Give me the register. Give me control. And above all, give me the option to say no.

I urge you to reconsider this approach. Restore the ability to default to the classic register view. Stop inserting fake transactions. And for future updates, respect your users enough to offer opt-in choices—not forced redesigns that break trust and functionality.

Sincerely,

Are you referring to what comes up under the "Investing" tab? If you are then it sounds like you're looking at something other than the "Portfolio" view. Maybe you're looking at Investing > Dashboard view? Updates sometimes make unexpected changes.

… Updates sometimes make unexpected changes.

There you go, my point exactly — no reputable company that has any respect for its user base will make updates that force it user base into the realm of unexpected changes. If the dev team pushing updates can't understand that the user base expects things to remain the same after an update then they aren't worth their salt IMHO. If things must change then you owe it to your user base to provide adequate warnibgs, caveats, and any reasonable ways to "how do I avoid this change".

Did this release do any of those things? Not that I'm aware of. Thus, I stand by my comments: Disruptive, Misguided, deeply frustrating, and disrespectful of your user base.

I agree that Quicken should not change accounts from Complete to Simple mode without warning or explanation.

That said, were you able to switch back to Complete mode?

What type of account was this - Brokerage, IRA, 401(k), etc?
