Scheduled transactions with principal and interest show incorrect totals

I might have posted on this before, but I think it is a sufficiently substantial bug to post, maybe again: one of the recent updates has scrambled the total amounts of scheduled loan payments. As best I can tell, it shows the principal transfer as the total, and omits the interest amounts. I am most recently noticing this on my scheduled auto loan.

    Hello @Tom Auer,

Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. To clarify, these are split transactions that got scrambled after a recent update? Does restoring a backup from before the issue happened correct the issue? If it does not, what seems to trigger this issue (for example, running One Step Update, syncing with the Quicken Cloud, etc.)?

I look forward to your reply!

More info needed. Specifically, what current Release of Q are you running? And what Q product? This info is at HELP, About Quicken.

Because I'm not seeing any issues with my scheduled loan payments, that were created via the "Loan Wizard".

    Hi Kristina,

I was able to resolve the issue without doing a lot of troubleshooting, by resetting the scheduled transaction. The general picture, as best I can reconstruct it: I am using Quicken Classic for Windows, and frequently update to the latest version. One of the recent updates scrambled at least one (possibly two) of my scheduled transactions which are split between principal and interest. I don't think I can reproduce it again at this point, but I do believe one of the recent updates had a bug that affected scheduled transactions in existing data files.

An afterthought… I also had trouble with the scheduled transaction for my paycheck getting scrambled. I posted on that separately. That would appear to be a possibly-related symptom, of a recent update scrambling scheduled deposits and withdrawals.

Thank you for the follow up,

I'm glad to hear you were able to resolve the issue. Should it recur, or happen with a different reminder, one of our Super Users posted the following for how they resolved the issue:

    I hope this helps!

I see this frequently and have complained about it for years, including sending screenshots, etc., through official channels.

I can replicate this frequently by reconciling transactions in the loan payment details register. There is no reconcile function at the account level, so you have to reconcile it at the transaction level. When you do, the transfer transaction in the checking account gets reconciled, even though it shouldn't be, and the total of the bank register entry changes. An uncategorized line is added, offsetting the amount of the interest line. (I don't have escrow, so it may summarize those in the offset, but I don't see them.)

This messes up bank registers frequently. [Edited - Language] I find them by searching for uncategorized transactions in the bank register. The unbalanced portion of the split, which offsets the interest split which is preserved, shows up as uncategorized. All you have to do is show the splits and click the adjust button, but I shouldn't have to.

The reconcile bug seems to apply to all account registers that don't have a reconcile function at the account level, e.g., cash or asset accounts. (Who decided cash shouldn't be reconciled?)

Thank you for the additional information @SomebodyInGNV,

I tried following the process you described, but wasn't able to replicate what you are reporting.

When you refer to reconciling transactions in accounts that don't allow it at the account level, are you referring to right clicking on the transaction, going to Reconcile Status, then selecting Reconciled?

Does this happen exclusively with split transfer transactions, or are there other types of transactions you see this happen with?

I look forward to your reply!

It's no longer consistent but it does happen. I am referring to the right-click process you describe. Reconciling the principal payment in a loan account is an example where it has occurred frequently in the past.

    @SomebodyInGNV @Tom Auer

There have been reports that syncing your data to the Quicken Cloud sometimes scrambles split transactions such as loan payments and paychecks..

If you go to Edit > Preferences > Mobile & Web, is Sync enabled?

If you don't use the mobile apps or Quicken on the Web, you can safely turn this off by moving the slider to the left. If you do use these apps, you could do this temporarily to see if the problems stop.

Please let us know what you find.

Sync is disabled. Over the many years of being a Quicken customer I apparently have unintentionally enabled it from time to time. I recently learned how to get rid of all online content by creating a new blank file, enabling sync, deleting all other online files, then deleting that blank file.

It's clean, now, but I don't think the process of syncing, even when enabled, was the cause of that specific issue. The corruption in the split transactions occured immediately as I reconciled them, not after OSU.

Whatever the case, I cannot intentionally replicate it now and cannot find any at this time. Perhaps it got fixed?
